cityfanlee23 Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Did you hold out most hope for as a future star, that turned out to be useless?
Donut Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Did you hold out most hope for as a future star, that turned out to be useless? Maybe somebody like James Wesolowski but that was largely down to injury sadly rather than attitude or ability. Same could be said for Matt Piper. Just purely on the ability side of things, id probably look at guys like Levi Porter especially, but maybe Louis Dodds, Chris O'Grady
Matt Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 De Laet. Only joking, but what I will say is when we got promoted I expected him to be one of our best players in the Premier League, he was the player I thought would make the step up most easy and it seems he's struggling the most. Probably someone like Richard Stearman, he was awesome in his first season (Granted it was a shite team, he was the best of a bad bunch), looked a real prospect, but after that he was awful!
Kitchandro Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Ben Marshall, Michael Johnson, Matt mills!
st albans fox Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 David Buchanan Joe waters There will be plenty more. Not useless but certainly never reached the heights that looked possible when they made their debuts
Xen Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Definitely Ben Marshall. Thought he was destined for the England squad at one point...
Guest Electric Yetis Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Surely Zsolt Laczko after his first match.
Danizen Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Waghorn. Although 'useless' would be a bit harsh. He was unlucky with injuries/competition but he's nowhere near the player we'd thought he'd be when we signed him permanently.
The Doctor Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Wesolowski is a great shout, he looked pretty good vs Celtic, then Bobo Balde wrecked a promising career, a leg break on your senior debut, and another one when he finally returned ruined him. In terms of potential that they just didn't follow through, rather than bad luck, it's got to be Levi Porter.
cityfanlee23 Posted 20 September 2015 Author Posted 20 September 2015 Ben Marshall, Michael Johnson, Matt mills! Genuinely hoped we could get him back on track, even if we had him back to half of his ability at 18 we would have a potential england player on our hands. He's now an owner of a restaurant in didsbury, manchester. If sven could have got him right and got him back on track, he would be in our starting 11 by now. At 27 he would be coming into his prime with us too, don't think city wanted him back on track or not.

Guest Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 This thread could be written just for Thracian :-D
cityfanlee23 Posted 20 September 2015 Author Posted 20 September 2015 Definitely not Useless, and was already coming into prime when we signed him... But thought Beckford would be firing for us in the prem when we signed him, His attitude was a disgrace.

sdb Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Mattock The 2nd Tommy Wright, Stearman, that massive CB who's name now completely escapes me (2005 sort of era). Basically anyone who came through the ranks.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Genuinely thought Mattock could've been a very reasonable left back had he stayed put - as it was we got a decent wedge for him, his career has stagnated, and we just played Berner who was better anyway.
cityfanlee23 Posted 20 September 2015 Author Posted 20 September 2015 Thought Michael Johnson had a estate agents I think hes in a few ventures now but he definitely has a restaurant!
cityfanlee23 Posted 20 September 2015 Author Posted 20 September 2015 Hooray for clickbait thread titles Hooray to posts that don't contribute for the thread, which equally waste time to the author and those reading it. Especially to those replying
bovril Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 I thought Stephen Hughes was going to be a very accomplished midfielder but he turned out to be useless. Ditto Paddy McCarthy. I think there were lots of players of that era that you hoped would be good out of sheer desperation rather than hope.
LCFC FOX Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Ricardo? Portugal international playing in the championship we thought we wouldn't concede again. Yet he was actually doing his best to score own goals.
