Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Though Wednesday done well signing him and he's been genuine and solid for them for the most part Erm, they released him because he wasn't very good...
HitchinFox Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 To answer the question, it's hard to narrow it down to one particular. So many players that fit the description of me holding out "hope for as a future star, that turned out to be useless?"The names on my list range from the likes of Dennis Wise, Jacob Laursen and Jason Wilcox (experienced, 30+ established players who I thought would make a real difference) to the likes of Levi Porter and Luke O'Neill (home grown players who I thought would make it after impressing and even playing for England/Scotland/etc. at U17/U18/U20 level). So, so many. I think the worst one though, is a cliche. And as any writer/journalist knows, clichés only work as they are true. For me, it has to be Ade Akinbiyi. Ultimately disappointing and we spent a record amount on him. He came to replace Bruno and failed miserably. He was shite at every aspect. Didn't help that he was also associated with Peter Taylor and the coming to an end of one of the most successful periods of our history. He was the epitome of our failures and mistakes as a club and a portent of what was ahead.
anstey blueboy Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Didn't Junior Lewis have a good debut? He played really well in his first game, my mate and I thought he would be the ideal replacement for Lennon, but the rest of the games he played he looked like he had 2 left feet
cityfanlee23 Posted 20 September 2015 Author Posted 20 September 2015 Erm, they released him because he wasn't very good... They replaced him after 3 years so he wasn't too bad.. He's playing at championship level. My point was that he would have been much better if we'd had him through the new owners tenure, with the huge investment into the clubs facilities, training and post game technical work.
matty98 Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 I thought Franck Moussa would make it with us
Aus Fox Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 What about George ' future England captain' Taft. Now been sent out on loan because he can't get a game at Burton Albion.
HitchinFox Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 What about George ' future England captain' Taft. Now been sent out on loan because he can't get a game at Burton Albion. Fair enough if you thought he was future England captain material. Not many did.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 They replaced him after 3 years so he wasn't too bad.. He's playing at championship level. They kept hold of him for that long because they didn't have a pot to piss in and he wasn't really a permanent fixture on the team sheet. I lived with a Wednesdayite at uni who really didn't rate him at Championship level.
Dan Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Ben Marshall. I thought he was going to be class. He was painfully ordinary.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Ben Marshall definitely, definitely has / had *something* - but as with most of the cases in this thread, didn't have the right head to make the most his talent. Was expecting a massive 12/13 from him.
darko2k7 Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 I remember Ashley Chambers was our best prospect on CM/FM for a while so always was waiting to see if he would step up but never did , was at York City last i checked.
Foxhateram Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Levi Porter. Looked class for a few games then fizzled off into obscurity.
Dan Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Ben Marshall definitely, definitely has / had *something* - but as with most of the cases in this thread, didn't have the right head to make the most his talent. Was expecting a massive 12/13 from him. He could hit a ball but that clouded the really average all-round game he had. No noticeable speed, no noticeable trickery, quite good delivery but nothing exceptional. Championship standard player. Knockhardt.. That's actually a good shout thinking about it. Would've been disappointed if during the 2012/13 season someone had said he'd leave on a free for Standard Liege.
Izzy Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Julian Joachim. Could and should have been a star.
AyewJoking Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Julian Joachim. Could and should have been a star. He was a star for us. Im glad he went downhill after leaving us
filbertstreet Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Fair enough if you thought he was future England captain material. Not many did. George Taft's FT accounts think George Taft is future England captain material.
Izzy Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 He was a star for us. Im glad he went downhill after leaving us Think he could have been even 'starier' for us though. With the right management, development, support, guidance and team around him, he could have been a real contender...
Stadt Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Probably too early for it yet and he's not totally useless but Liam Moore, I genuinely thought he'd be captain for the next 10 years and get dozens of caps for England and it looks increasingly unlikely
ithuriel Posted 20 September 2015 Posted 20 September 2015 Steve Corica and Scott Taylor, injuries ruined both of them but Wolves ended up with our crocked Aussie and Taylor helped us get into the Prem. Neil Lewis was supposed to be something too but never made it, had some pace but nothing else.
