STUHILL Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 The more performances Simpson puts in like that, the less I see him as the weak link in our outstanding team this year. He has been brilliant. My only criticism of him and Fuchs, is their inability to bomb forward, overlapping the wingers etc, but they are different types of defenders to Schlupp and De Laet and what we lose in attacking threat, we gain more in defence and clean sheets. It also allows are very talented wingers to do their thing. Long-term, I would be looking to sign a young RB to replace De Laet and be pushing Simpson for a starting place. Someone who offers the speed and overlapping that Simpson doesn't. Chillwell is more than adequate for that role on the Left.
Haydos Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 Yeah but Simpson is a shit defender because of what he did to his missus so should be kicked out of our club Even the thickest posters on here weren't saying that. You and everyone else knows that. Some people don't want criminals representing us, some don't care what the players do off the pitch. It's always going to be like that.
WesMorganGod Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 Huth has been a fantastic signing, and Morgan has improved no end since playing with him. Let us not forget, this run in form started way way way before we signed Ngolo Kante, Fuchs, or started playing Simpson or Drinkwater regularly. It started once Huth was settled into the side and Albrighton started playing week in week out. We had defensive frailty's and once they were addressed we started beating every side put in front of us near enough, and signings and changes made this season have just strengthened the side even more. We undoubtedly had a major problems at centre back until Huth was bought in. Exactly, our great form was before Kante or Fuchs came, or Vardy was scoring so many goals. It all started when Morgan had a solid partner who actually played every game with him, before that he played with like 4 different CB's and it was never settled.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 I still would rather have De Laet play than Simpson.
Oxfordfox83 Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 You are right. Very rarely is one area of a team unaffected by another. Ie defenders don't defend in isolation, attackers don't attack regardless of how the rest of the team is playing. Etc. . And of course, individuals make individual errors. A striker might miss a sitter, a defender might do an iffy back pass. But generally individual errors are borne out of how a team is playing per se. A striker in a free flowing team, having lots of chances will become more confident knowing that if misses the first one, five minutes later he'll get another go. A defender, knowing that if he makes an error, it's not so important because we'll probably win anyway, suddenly becomes more composed. And so on and so forth. Again, it's of no coincidence to me that our back four (pre Huth) last season looked so shaky. The had little support from the midfield and we couldn't score. Immediately then, they were under pressure. It was the presence of Huth, the change of formation and the form of Vardy that completely turned last season around. None of this 'Morgan is a donkey' (he isnt). Until we fundamentally changed what we were doing, we looked like going down. This season, Kante protects the back four, Vardy has retained his form and Drinkwater controls the midfield. Everyone else has benefitted. Bingo. Got Huth in, got Albrighton playing, got a bit of luck, had a decent run, got the confidence running, did not look back. Kante has been a revelation, and DD has finally shown some of his Championship form. They will both be club legends if they hang around. Thank fvck Cambiasso kept us up to see it!

Good job Lenny glover got done after he had finished playing then! We've had players nicking a living off the club for years aswell!

Not seen anyone complaining about Vardy's conviction in fairness. People just seemed to take a disliking for him imo.
fuchsntf Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 RdL for me is a good part of this squad. I believe he is a good fit in, at the back. Covers not just Simpson, but if during a game, injuries, or knocks are taken in the backline, he can cover across that line. If RDL is chosen as first choice again, I have no hang ups. With, RDL, Chilwell, Simpson, Fuchs, if need be, Schlupp, even Albrighton, then Amarty.Defence for me is sorted, for now.Summer will bring rightly other thoughts on squad building.
