Nalis Posted 12 December 2015 Posted 12 December 2015 Deluded thinking we'll end up anywhere near the top 4! We haven't beat any big teams in this run! We're a top half side at best! It's the same most seasons! Ie Southampton and west ham flying high getting way ahead of themselves! One finishing 8th and the other 13th? We dont need to beat the top teams if we win most of the games against the smaller teams. You only get 3pts for a win, doesnt matter if the opposition is Bournemouth or Man City.

And if you get even more points it becomes more likely you'll finish higher and maybe even win the league! You're a genius! I can't believe none of us worked that out! 40 points will generally keep you up, 40 points is a sensible target to aim at to start with. Like I said before you're trying to look smart when you're clearly not. You're trying to put an exact figure on guaranteeing a league position when surely all your research will have told you that's not possible, you just have to try and hit the ballpark of roughly what you think you'll need. 90% of the time 40 is enough, so aim for it. If we were to go down on 40 points, the fact that you don't 90% of the time will tell it's a freak occurrence.

benn Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 What are the % chances of avoiding relegation with 43 points? 96 - 99 % of couse 40 points is enough in the 12 years ago, I think ranieri has based his calculations just on the last 10 years. it's a good argument but not for sure 100 % see the results for a simple example in https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Championnat_d%27Angleterre_de_football_2002-2003 relegation of West ham with 42 points https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Championnat_d%27Angleterre_de_football_1997-1998 relegation of Bolton Wanderers with 40 points https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Championnat_d%27Angleterre_de_football_1996 relegation of Sunderland with 40 points

yorkie1999 Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Wonder if any team has avoided relegation twice in one year.
filbertstreet Posted 13 December 2015 Posted 13 December 2015 Wonder if any team has avoided relegation twice in one year. don't 17 teams do that every year?
Oxfordfox83 Posted 14 December 2015 Posted 14 December 2015 To me, the reason everyone is sticking to unambitious comments in the media is because the media are dense, blunt-headed eejits who only want a headline. CR: "We think Europe is a reasonable possibility" Mirror: "Foxes eyeing Barca clash after dream start" The first time we lose two games together: "Claudio, you've stated that European football is a minimum expectation. Is this a sign that you've set your sights too high?" "Claudio, two defeats in a row is relegation form. Have the other teams found you out?" "Is Jamie Vardy going to be playing non-League again with Leicester?" It's no wonder our players and manager keep it bland-anything they say will be brought up and used against them. Obviously, behind closed doors the ambitions will be somewhat higher. But this way we can set our sights high and not be accountable to baying morons if we miss out.
