I think There is a difference between saying "our goal is to achieve 40pts" and "our goal is to achieve 40pts as soon as possible" CR is the coach he set this mentality and I think it should be respected and followed

Posted

I like the target and aim to get there as soon as we can. Once reached, set a new target......pretty simple really. Not sick of it at all

Posted

I'm sure they've talked about and set other targets internally.

For the time being the players will have probably been told not to speak publicly about any other targets than reaching 40 points.

I'm more than happy with the cautious approach to expectations. The media are building us up so they can rejoice in our failure when and if the collapse occurs. The manager and players should continue to play down expectations and keep taking each game as it comes.

I seriously don't understand why a chunk of posters on here are desperate to have smoke blown up their arses by the press "when will we get the credit we deserve" etc.

Let's keep grounded. No one expects us to win the league and the media who are talking it up don't believe it either, they're simply building us up for a fall.

40 points then take it one game at a time. Anything better than 10th i will be very happy with.

Top in mid December..

9th in May..

I'd now be somewhat disappointed, crazy but I really would be!

It's got to be a top 6 finish from where we are now!

Long may it continue I my opinion. This attitude is keeping the pressure off us and it could potentially win us the Premier League or gain us a spot in next seasons Champions League. Once we get to 40 points I'd expect Claudio to review the situation and target 43 points, followed by 46 once we get to 43 and so on and so forth. When Claudio first talked about getting to the 40 point mark I'd bet he was deadly serious but now I think he is definitely playing on that and using it as a mind game and so far it is working wonderfully. If he came out and said the new target is 80 points then that would put our players under immense pressure. Its all part of the plan.

We need 16 points to get top 10 (going on last seasons table)

thats 5 wins, 1 draw, 17 losses

We need 30 points to get top 6 (again on last seasons table)

10 wins, 13 losses.

38 points for top 4.....

12 wins, 2 draws, 9 losses.

55 points to win the league.

18 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses. (expect this seasons table to be considerably weaker)

Im normally quite negative but wow thats scary stuff when you look into it.

I do think the sole intention of it is to keep people's feet on the ground, especially given the way the media in this country work - they're horrible, I have no problem with us bullshitting them as they twist everything that gets said.

However, I think anyone who genuinely believes that 40 points, or dare I even say not qualifying for Europe should be our aim this season, then I just cannot get to grips with what you want as a fan.

The best thing about supporting a club like Leicester is the fact should be we be successful, it's a surprise. No-one ever fancies us to do anything. If we're ever going to pull off a shock league victory, or even a top four position - how will it all have started? In this kind of fashion.

When is the last time a team like Leicester were top in December?

People in my opinion need to start thinking more positively in general:

"8th would be excellent" - not from here it wouldn't. 8th would require relegation candidate form from here. Why be happy to get this far and then call it that? From pre-season, yes I'd have taken 8th, but things change, look at the amount of things that have fell our way. We've been really impressive since the start of April - but we haven't actually got anything to show for it, we haven't achieved anything. Don't stop now.

People who believe the top clubs are untouchable and will come good  - I'm not claiming that they're incapable of finishing above us for one second, but what exactly is it based on? I've banged this drum for ages, but can people seriously not see that these teams aren't what they were? Arsenal are improving, they're the side I fear the most. Manchester City I do worry about as well as they've shown they can be excellent, but like Arsenal, they're constantly losing their best players to injury, and they seemingly have little answer to it. Manchester United are hardly any better than they were under Moyes, they've just had poorer competition from the other top sides. Chelsea would need a miracle to take the title from here. Liverpool for all the hype are still painfully inconsistent. Tottenham are a good team, but are still not yet the finished article. We are well worth that top spot. We're the only team in the division who can consistently attack and defend well.

We need to realise what a superb chance this is and dare to dream. Think Atletico Madrid two years ago. How would they have reacted with a usual third placed finish? They wouldn't be pissed off with it, but it just becomes another year with little to show for it. This is possibly the best chance we will ever get of winning the league. Don't play it down.

Spot on. There's no point in being a Leicester fan if you don't "believe" we can win the league. I don't think we will win the league but I will always believe that it is possible.

Well said Dan.

I for one would not be happy if we pissed this season up the wall. We are not top because of luck, we are top because we are good.

It would be inexcusable to not still win a fair amount of our games with our current (and fit) squad. It would have to take a big lack of professionalism for us to even finish in the bottom half from here.

I do get bored of the '40 points' phrase in general to be honest. It's so over-used, as if it's some kind of achievement.

I used to have some Everton fan rip me to shreds about Leicester constantly, he'd snipe at absolutely everything he could, and even he's admitting we're the real deal now.

You don't produce this kind of form for this many games if you aren't a bloody good side.

Personally i think its just for the tv this 40pt it also keeps other team guessing thinking we just have that mini goal. big teams will brush us away thinking we ain't a threat to them as our goal is 40pts only but behind closed door the goals might be broken down in to mini goals sub goals and final goal. Abit like a 450 pound man or woman training to lose weight they cant get to 250 pound in a month so they brake it up so 1st 50 pounds something do able with asking for to much so they still motivated to hit next goal so after that would be 100 and so on. So far as we n others know we going for 40pts but end goal might be finish top 4 cos am sure he will say after 40pts we go for top half of prem n come feb it might be top 5 etc

Ps sorry for all bad spelling and grammar :(

Nothing crazy about that. I'd be bloody gutted now. We should make Europe at the absolute least from here.

This is so true i said that to my bro in law whos a Liverpool fan who seems to think we had easy games i had to remind him he has played the same teams as us give or take 3/5 different ones and we are top cs we took our chances

We have been the best team so far. the table doesnt lie.

if we continue this form and good fortune we will deservedly win the league. not saying we will win it but its only logical :fc:

I do agree with Dan and have been making the same points to others.

There's a possibility we might not be back in this position in our lifetime...

Posted

i would be ecstatic with a top 6 finish....

quick question if say spurs or liverpool win uefa cup or an english cup and say we finish 6th (behind spurs or liverpool) how does this affect euro places??

^^ if that makes sense
