Oxfordfox83 Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 So, after seeing Chelsea have their behinds so comprehensively handed to them on Monday, I've been wondering about a Best Of Premier League XI and who'd get in there, based solely on this season's performance. GK - Butland - The outstanding keeper in the league this year, and surely doing enough to worry Joe Hart for England. RB - Bellerin - Looked excellent at the start of the season, gives them licence to roam forward. CB - Smalling - Playing in a weak Man Utd side, he's given them strength and reliability, as well as an attacking threat from set pieces. CB - Kompany - The difference between Man City with and without him is astonishing. LB - Fuchs - Calm head, solid defensively and superb distribution. Unbelievable that he was free. RW - Mahrez - Obviously. Everyone knows about him now, and they still can't stop him. CM - Kante - No one plays defensive midfield like him - an absolute machine, and getting more comfortable going forward too. CM - Ozil - One of the world's best, and in great form. Arsenal's most important player. LW - Payet - The key to West Ham beating all the big dogs away early on, and his absence has really haunted them. CF - Vardy - No one has noticed this recently non-League centre forward signed for just £1m by plucky little Leicester, but he's pushing for a spot on England's left wing. CF - Lukaku - Seems to have it all: pace, power and an eye for goal. Scary if he becomes consistent, let's hope not this weekend... You could make lots of cases for some of the spots (any number of attacking mids, Aguero for Lukaku etc.) but I think Vardy, Mahrez and Kante are shoo-ins, and I personally wouldn't swap Fuchs for anyone in this league. Thoughts?

Thoughts? LB's a tough one, there has to be shouts for Kolarov, Cresswell, Monreal, Moreno, Baines, Shaw (though the last two haven't had much game time due to injury) When you have been used to Konchesky and Schlupp playing there though, it's easy to see Fuchs as being capable of being in a world XI haha.
Richard Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 I'd say Monreal would get in ahead of Fuchs but otherwise looks pretty fair. Probably be a bit harsh to leave out Sanchez but who do you swap him for?
shen Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 I'd say Dann or Reid deserve to be ahead of Kompany. A big deal is made out of Kompany because his replacements have been inept, but he's been on the decline for over a year and his injury record is pretty damning. Monreal probably deserves the LB spot so far, but Kolarov will likely have make up the lost ground as soon as Man City shore up their defense. Fuchs has done great and surely must go down as the bargain of the season if he keeps this up! Struggle to comprehend how he didn't end up at a club with a higher standing than us. Difficult to argue against the others you picked, Oxfordfox!
ScouseFox Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 our whole first xi except swap leo for lukaku.
Fox92 Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 Agree with our selections. I get the point about Kompany but he hasn't played that many games. A player such as Dann or Van Dijk should be there instead. So other than that I think it's spot on. Butland has been superb for Stoke, it's only the fact we also have Hart otherwise he'd play for England.
