Webbo Posted 25 March 2016 Posted 25 March 2016 On the same theme, I'm going Birmingham on Thursday, anything worth seeing (not the Villa obviously) Just got back. Quite an impressive city centre, less said about the rest the better.
Guest Posted 25 March 2016 Posted 25 March 2016 Been ages, but I do remember enjoying Trafalgar Square. Best view of Big Ben, imho.
ousefox Posted 25 March 2016 Posted 25 March 2016 The National Gallery has some of the best art in the world.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 26 March 2016 Posted 26 March 2016 Gotta do all the Royal stuff. The Mall and Horseguards parade. You might get lucky and see the Household Division practicing Trooping of The Colour
BoyJones Posted 26 March 2016 Posted 26 March 2016 If you happen to be in the Lissom Grove / marylebone station area and like antiques, Alfie's on Church street is worth a visit. Plenty of stuff to see and got a decent rooftop restaurant as well. Couple of other antique shops further down on Church street, which also has a street market, but the market is rubbish these days basically selling poor quality goods, unlike it's heyday in the 60/70's when it was a really vibrant place. Alfies is around the corner from St Edwards Convent, my old school from the 50's. Alfies not maybe worth a specific visit, but do pop in if as I say you find yourself in the area.
Soar Fox Posted 26 March 2016 Posted 26 March 2016 Yeah, I just used my contactless card last month to get to Arsenal and back. Very easy and quick. I used my contactless on last Saturday for Crystal Palace, I thought it was capped at £12 per day. I looked on my online banking and it had charged me £17 for the day.
Countryfox Posted 26 March 2016 Posted 26 March 2016 London is a great place to visit and me and Mrs CF have been going there on a fairly regular basis for years .... there is so much to see and do that we hardly ever do the same things twice unless they are really good or it takes a couple of visits to appreciate them. The markets, theatres, museums, art galleries, parks and popular attractions are all a pleasure to visit. A lot has been covered on this thread and will keep you going for ages. I spent the whole day in the Imperial war museum (one of the guns outside is off my dads ship) while Mrs CF went shopping .... she didn't get much cus, as we are country folk, no one was prepared to take a box of eggs and a dead rabbit in exchange for a new dress.

The cap won't be applied with an unresolved journey and you will be charged a single fare for each trip you did that day.

We went through so many stations that day I probably forgot one by mistake.

A trip to Selhurst Park is zone 1-4 which caps at £9.30 so you've ended up paying double.
BoyJones Posted 26 March 2016 Posted 26 March 2016 TFL were doing half price fares for using contactless debit cards when we were down for the Arsenal game. Presumably a short term incentive.

When we went the Emirates a few weeks ago it only cost me £3, though that was only from Cockfosters to Arsenal then back again.
Ric Flair Posted 27 March 2016 Posted 27 March 2016 One of the best things I ever did in London was the alternative tour of east london. You paid what you wanted at the end and it's a tour of all the street art which some of it is mind blowing. Then get garried in Shoreditch/Brick Lane after.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 27 March 2016 Posted 27 March 2016 Walked 44,000 steps and 28.5km in London yesterday. If you can hack crowds and a long walk, walk from Tower Bridge all the way to Westminster along the Thames Path on the Southbank. It's really nice and relaxing, gets a little busy round near the London Eye but it's great.
