gdl9050 Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Just watching the FA Youth cup semi final and there is next to no one there at the Emirates, got me thinking is Football actually quite dull with no fans there? If it was in a packed stadium with fans singing the game would actually seem quite exciting. I find La Liga quite boring for the same reason I think. So just how crucial are the fans to the game?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Exciting game is exciting. Sure fans add atmosphere, but as someone who has been to watch Oadby Town and games where Filbert St was half empty, good football will still get you excited, regardless of whether other people are there. If it didn't then how would Sky make so much money beaming football into people's homes, or Match of the Day be one of the most enduring British TV shows? Great football doesn't need fans, but fans need great football.

C-man Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 If Sky/BT were to put the world's best 22 players on a pitch and televise it in front of no fans, I would never watch it in a million years. Without fans, it is simply 22 people kicking a ball around a field and if I'm not playing myself, quite frankly I don't find that very interesting.

Larry_LCFC Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 Football without fans is just pointless imo. The away end at the KP hasn't been full for a fair few games now and the atmosphere between the two sets of fans has been pretty wank. Luckily the home end has made up for it but you can't beat a totally full rocking stadium.
davieG Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 I enjoy going down the local park to watch a game and I'm probably the only one without any connection to the teams.
Durnerz Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 The Rome Derby must be the only derby in the world where you can turn up and pay on the gate.
Voll Blau Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 I have to turn over games if there is no atmosphere, seems to happen frequently with matches televised from Anfield or Goodison Park. The Rome Derby must be the only derby in the world where you can turn up and pay on the gate. Nah, would imagine there'll be quite a few on the continent where you can do that.
AjcW Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 For the same reason that I walk out of pubs that refuse to put the sound on games, I don't think I could enjoy a game without fans/atmosphere. It's one of the main issues with England games at Wembley for me, the Germany game with atmosphere was brilliant, the Holland game was painful.
