I remember trudging home that evening, like Charlie Brown, and my Spurs-supporting 'mate' rounded the corner. He had the most irritating smirk on his face and made some smug comment that I can no longer remember but alluded to how much he relished our relegation. We both live in London now so in the coming weeks I'll be scouring the streets in the hope of accidentally bumping into him with a few choice smirks of my own. Not that I've carried that bitterness for almost a decade or anything...

My abiding memory of that Saturday, indeed of the whole season, is my loathing of Mandaric and the succession of managers he dumped on us, culminating in Rentagob Holloway. But in a funny way, it provided a springboard for where we are now.
