We were on a coach in the Wembley car park queuing to get out and there were Blackburn coaches either side of us with fans waving wads of cash through the windows at us

kushiro Posted 1 May 2016 Posted 1 May 2016 Cheers. I wonder how often you think of that season. That Tim Flowers 'bottle' interview always stays with me. Here's a Blackburn story from 1994/95. I'd kind of fallen out of love with football and saw no games at all that season. Except - I happened to be in the town on a Saturday afternoon in December and noticed that Blackburn were playing at home to Southampton. I thought I'd stroll down to Ewood Park and see if I could get in free for the last 15 minutes when they opened the gates. As I was approaching the ground I could see through a gap between the stands the unmistakable figure of Alan Shearer taking a shot at goal. I couldn't see whether it went in or not, but from Shearer's raised arm and the noise of the crowd, it was obvious that he'd scored. I walked round to the other side of the ground and went through the just opened gates at what must have been about 4.30. I found an empty seat just behind the goal. I asked someone the score and they told me Rovers were 3-1 up. A few moments later, Matt le Tissier picked up the ball about 45 yards from goal and decides to ... well, anyone following football in the 90s knows what happened next. But Rovers held on to win 3-2 and keep their run going. That was the only 15 minutes of live football I saw that season. Next year you helped kill off another dream, as I recall - beating Keegan's Newcastle just after they lost 4-3 at Anfield, right? Give us a few more memories of that season, alank.
alank Posted 2 May 2016 Author Posted 2 May 2016 You have a good memory. I was right behind the goal when LeTiss did that. Brilliant. The Tim Flowers bottle game is the best match I've ever been to.it was our last home game and against Newcastle who were good back then.we had anfield to come so knew we needed a result.shearer got us off to a flier but then it was like the bloody alamo. Every time ruel fox got the ball all hell broke loose.I aged 10 years that night but flowers was immense.

We did buy the title but we bought it well haha! Jack insisted on young English players and when all was said and done and they all moved on it was for a profit big enough to cover the cost of rebuilding Ewood with change to spare and a prem trophy in the cabinet.he was a smart man! How much have Liverpool, Newcastle, spurs etc spent and got nowhere near? Our story certainly doesn't match yours but it was a story and amazing ride for us.
MC Prussian Posted 2 May 2016 Posted 2 May 2016 Should we make it, it'll make for a great read and it'd be fantastic to emulate Blackburn's "success" two decades ago. 21 years... I suppose a large quantity of Leicester fans weren't even born then! Shame no one else has been able to break through the oligopoly before - let's hope this is the beginning of a new era with somewhat more unpredictable league table finishes up top.
