Zabbasbeard_MCFC Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 Just want to say CONGRATULATIONS LEICESTER CITY. I don't do ass-kissing so this is spoken from the heart. A great achievement, you've given everyone hope. I don't recall being happy for another team to this degree in all my life. I am so pleased for every Leicester fan I've ever met, at I have to say, one of the friendliest away grounds I have experienced. Worked with one or two top blokes who followed them as well. Like us you have had a lot of ups and downs flip-flopping between the First and Second Divisions - plus the blight of that recent solitary season in Division 3 - and we share the record of 7 Division 2 titles. When others were dismissing you, even in November I thought you had a durability and togetherness about your team that would take you far. I thought back in December if you could get through Christmas intact results and injuries wise that you'd be in the shake up. We had the better of the game at your place but didn't take our chances - that said Vardy went close himself didn't he. When you gave us a good beating at our place I thought we'd seen the champions, but it's never cut and dried until its actually sealed. That defeat hurt, believe me. Over run, out-fought and out-played. Tottenham were worthy challengers and are a good side, but the arrogance of too many of their fans over too many years (since '81 for me) made that an unpalatable prospect. So congratulations not only for winning the league but for saving us the prospect of Totnumb winning it! Overall, I am so pleased for you and your wonderful club. But now we want beat to it next time... Best wishes. Phil B Manchester City fan
David Lowe Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 Thanks! Yes I think the win at your place really did suggest it was a serious title challenge. Good luck in your semi-final.
Zabbasbeard_MCFC Posted 3 May 2016 Author Posted 3 May 2016 Thanks David. We'll need a bit of luck, but you never know...
Thracian Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 I' ve been astounded how many fans of different clubs have adopted us as their "second" support team - almost all because we give hope to everyone but also I hope because we try to play the game with passion but honesty as well. That's not to pretend our players are contending for sainthood. We do as much pushing, pulling and grappling as anyone else. But we don't go haranguing the referee til his eardrums hurt, we don't go trying to get opponents sent off by doing gymnastic floor exercises every time there's a mistimed tackle and we do accept defeat with professional discipline rather than turning to kicking our opponents every which way. Tottenham shocked me yesterday. I well understand momentary retaliation after a bad tackle or momentary anger after a big disappointment but the cynical way Spurs players started kicking everything that moved not only let their club down it exposed officials as being prepared to totally disregard the rules in certain circumstances. Til then, although never an admirer of the Spurs smug fans, I marvelled at some of their football and the many and varied talents assembled into what I believed was sure to be a top team. Now I've only contempt for them because I can't believe we'd ever have reacted like that in the same situation. Not because we don't have the passion because we do have more pride in ourselves. In fact I've been all but 100% proud of our professional attitude this season and believe it has served us wonderfully in the main.I want to win as much as anyone - always have done - but, old fashioned though it might sound, I want us to win in a way that does us credit and I think we've done that and well earned the affection so many fans are now expressing in so many parts of the country and the world beyond.
Zabbasbeard_MCFC Posted 3 May 2016 Author Posted 3 May 2016 Thracian, while you're not my 2nd team I've always quite liked Leicester - I quite liked being them at subbuteo I recall back in the 70s because the "pressure" was off being my own beloved MCFC! I just enjoyed the game. Plus that Keith Weller 3-0 v Norwich stuck in the memory. I've always felt we have a lot in common with Leicester (and Everton and Sunderland). I don't think Leicester are a dirty side, your lot took no prisoners on your visit Chez Etihad - there were 2 or 3 choice tackles - but it would have been churlish for us to have moaned about it when you gave us such a caning - 1-3 flattered us a bit. It was a chastening defeat for us. Your team did you huge credit no doubt about that.
ManCityvisitor Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 I´ll just join in and congratulate you guys from MCFC... Well deserved
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 Excellent post and spot on throughout. I'm hoping in the future we can aspire to be like Manchester City in terms of being a solid top four team, winning trophies and being one of English football's top teams.

Sawdust Caesar Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 Please allow me to join the queue of people congratulating you and your club on your fantastic achievement. I didn't give you a hope pre Christmas but knew it was well and truly on after your comprehensive display at the Etihad. Enjoy.

I don't know if their is a similar expression. But in Germany we have a special word for the Tottenham players. They are bad loosers. Only Hugo Lloris was a good one yesterday. A lot of excusions are turning around. I have an opposite view on the case. For me it is a Bad example. I hope it will be an exeption.
Kendal Fox Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 Thank you Phil. Wonderful, kind words mate. Appreciate it. Best of luck for the CL on Wednesday!*BTW - Glad we held off those pesky Spurs and glad we could be of service to you there!*
trabuch Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 We are a team. Football fans understand that. We are a team.
Zabbasbeard_MCFC Posted 3 May 2016 Author Posted 3 May 2016 Thanks Phil, rooting for your boys tomorrow in CL. Thanks mate. It's refreshing to hear from fans who are not bitter about our club's wealth.

Best of luck for the CL on Wednesday! *BTW - Glad we held off those pesky Spurs and glad we could be of service to you there!* Spoken from the heart mate - appreciate your good wishes too. It will be a tall order but you never know... I'm delighted for you Leicester fans - it is such a wonderful story - and I haven't met a friendlier club or set of fans in my experience. Went to Filbo a few times with mixed success and to your current abode a few times. Yes, Tottenham will never be our favourite other team - it goes back to 1981 and how arrogant and appalling winners they were in that Cup Final replay. They haven't generally (of course there are exceptions) been much better down the years. Anyway, like most of the nation, I'm really enjoying your success.

I'm hoping in the future we can aspire to be like Manchester City in terms of being a solid top four team, winning trophies and being one of English football's top teams. No guarantees we'll make top four this season, (the way we got ripped apart at Southampton on Sunday suggests it will be hard), but thanks for the kind words mate! It will be very interesting to see what your club does - it seems very grounded - Ranieri says it will remain built on hard work - sounds very sensible. Bringing in so-called "stars" can be troublesome as we found out in 2000 with George Weah - he didn't stay long!

It's very kind spirited of you and that is forever admirable. It's only just starting to sink in for me! As for Spurs - when I used to live and work in London, (not blanketing ALL Spurs fans as there are always exceptions) whenever any shit went down with regard to obnoxious footy fans rampaging the streets, fights on the tube, etc - It was nearly always Spurs fans at the centre of things... Worst thing is that their current crop of players seem to be upholding that disgraceful spirit with their behaviour on the pitch... Again, chin up for tomorrow - wishing you all the best there.
