ealingfox Posted 28 May 2016 Posted 28 May 2016 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36404799 Tottenham to play at Wembley in Champions League next season 1 hour ago From the sectionFootball Sharethis page Tottenham's new 61,000-seater stadium is expected to be completed in two yearsTottenham have reached a deal to play their Champions League home games at Wembley next season. The Premier League club also has the option to play all home league and cup matches, as well as any European games, at the national stadium during the 2017-18 campaign. Spurs are having a new £400m stadium built next to their existing White Hart Lane ground. The development is due to be completed in time for the 2018-19 season. "Our season ticket waiting list is over 50,000 so this now also offers us a great opportunity to provide more of our supporters with a chance to see the team play live during our Champions League campaign," said chairman Daniel Levy. "Importantly, as we know it was our fans' preference, it means that we can play our home matches in London during our season away." Tottenham's third-place finish in the Premier League qualified them for the group stages of next season's Champions League, which means they will play at least three home matches in the competition. Their north-London rivals Arsenal hosted Champions League games at Wembley in 1998-99 and 1999-2000. Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn welcomed Spurs' move, saying: "The increased revenue will help us meet our targets for improving coaching and grassroots facilities and growing participation."
Fox92 Posted 28 May 2016 Posted 28 May 2016 I've got to go White Hart Lane next season whatever the date. Still not been and I'm not missing it. Another great ground going.

ealingfox Posted 28 May 2016 Author Posted 28 May 2016 Is it not quite unfair that they get the opportunity to triple their gate receipts just for moving ground? They shouldn't get any of the profit from gate receipts over the number that White Hart Lane can hold surely? Or even better they shouldn't be allowed to sell more tickets than the capacity of WHL. 50k on the waiting list for STs when they've won fvck all for 25 years seems a bit fanciful to me.

I think that they are limited to 50k for games.
Leicesterpool Posted 28 May 2016 Posted 28 May 2016 Unfair advantage means if Spurs get to a cup final it'll be like an home game for them.
Hollism Posted 28 May 2016 Posted 28 May 2016 Like when Bayern played the 2012 champions league final at home?
Leicesterpool Posted 29 May 2016 Posted 29 May 2016 Like when Bayern played the 2012 champions league final at home? That's true I'll give you that one.
stripeyfox Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Makes sense. They want to redevelop and need somewhere to play in the meantime. If it was us needing to rebuild our ground and there was a 60000 Stadium sitting unused most of the year in the same city then I doubt any Leicester fans would have a problem with it

Not really - they'll be paying The FA for the use/rental of the stadium. Good business sense. Like when the Tigers played some games at the King Power - should they have only been allowed to sell as many tickets as Welford Road would hold?

If thats what the other Aviva Prem teams had asked then yes. But really it should be no profit from gate receipts over the 24k or whatever of WR.

We wouldn't be allowed to use Wembley. The same city thing shouldnt be relevant. The London teams dont have more claim to Wembley than all the others. It just seems like more undue London bias.

They have to go somewhere. People just being outraged for the sake of it. It's not about the London teams having "more claim", but the fact that Wembley is located nearby these teams makes it a logical choice.
