We're not exactly Sunderland and Newcastle, Southampton and Portsmouth or Liverpool and Manchester. Most of the Leicester folk I know just think Nottingham is a nice place to go shopping. I don't know a single adult that isn't a City fan that has any problem with Notts. Fair point, but the second part of my post still stands. Why would a company buy or sponsor something in a city and name it not after themselves, but something from their own city and not from the city the thing is in? One it seems like a waste of money and two it looks odd. And similarly why would a club from one city be happy letting another city honour its history on their patch?

I think you're over analysing it. Their brand logo is Robin Hood, they're called The Nottingham. They probably think calling it The Nottingham Stand or The The Nottingham stand would sound confusing and shit. It'll be plastered with their branding and logos like all corporate sponsored stands which will include massive decals of a stylised Robin Hood head. I really don't see the issue. You just want to find one. Loads of Tigers fans will have come from Nottinghamshire to watch games, it's just good local advertising for them.

Robin hood is figure synonymous with Nottingham (and South Yorkshire) so why is anything in another city named after him? I wouldn't expect to find something in Newcastle named after Richard III. The fact he makes up their logo is irrelevant, they aren't calling The Robin Hood Building Society. I think "The Nottingham Building Society Stand" would have worked fine.
Finnegan Posted 5 August 2016 Posted 5 August 2016 Bit of a mouthful! Perhaps the Tigers said "that sounds shit and is too long, think of something else."

Nick Posted 5 August 2016 Posted 5 August 2016 Really naive and daft thing to do - will be unpopular with fans and do nothing for the brand. It reminds me of East Midlands trying to be named Nottingham Airport to help attract Americans. Stupid buggers.

They're plenty passionate about their sport and team, before you ask! PS, Facecloth, syllables, man!

Fair enough, I find it a bit clench to be honest and a rather naive decision on the part of Tigers. Its not the end of the world, just a bit short sighted imo. I'm sure we'll all get used to it.
SemperEadem Posted 5 August 2016 Posted 5 August 2016 Where do Tigers fans exist? I literally know one guy and he doesn't go to games. Silly sponsor this to go on a silly looking stand.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 I have no problem with the name. Welford Road is still Welford Road. Look at the stupid names we have had since Filbert Street, all crisps and beer. It will change again when Durex become our main sponsor. Hope they do, because it would suit some of the "dick heads!" who have posted on here.
BlueSi13 Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Meh always thought the name LEICESTER Tigers was a bit of a falsehood anyway. Should at least be rebranded as Leicestershire Tigers as that's where most of their support comes from.
GazzinderFox Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 I turned to the dark side once. I remember being really impressed, because when you bought a coffee, rather than put milk in it for you, they pointed to a little table that had a jug of milk and sugar and stuff on it and you could pour your own in. I thought to myself, that would last about 30 seconds at the football. I had a lovely time, but then, I did live alone at the time.
The Fox Covert Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 Lighten up the lot of you. The other lot on Welford Road aren't all a bunch of toffs. I am sure the club would have loved a local 'Leicester' based business to come forward with a sponsorship deal for the stand, but one didn't. It's a building society as well. Remember them??? The outfits which gave the opportunity to millions of would be home-owners to buy their own home, and do it at a reasonable cost because they didn't have to pay a dividend to the fat cats in the City. It will be a shame to see the end of the old Crumbie stand however. I thought when I last saw a match there in April I might never sit on those wooden benches again. Brilliant atmosphere because of the low roof and closeness to the pitch. I hope the new stand is just as good. The din from the crowd an extra man for the home stand, and intimidating for the visitors. There are some sponsors you wouldn't want though, or maybe you would. How about Bernard Matthews to sponsor Tottenham?
