davieG Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Quote Leicester Tigers' new £8 million stand is to be named the Robin Hood Stand, under a "six figure a year" deal. It is being named as part of a three-year partnership with Nottingham Building Society. The Nottingham has 56 branches, including 12 in Leicestershire, with plans for more. The partnership sees the society become the official building society of Leicester Tigers while continuing its sponsorship of the Tigers' tag rugby programme – enjoyed by more than 50 Leicestershire schools – and of the Junior Tigers Club, which has 45,000 members. Tigers chief executive Simon Cohen said: "We look forward to working together and developing our links, especially in the continued growth of the Junior Tigers Club and our links with the community." Last week it was announced the East Stand at Welford Road will carry the name of Mattioli Woods from next season. The Enderby-based wealth management business will also have branding on the team's kit. Historically the Nottingham had one branch south of the River Trent, but expanded in the county after merging with Shepshed Building Society in 2013. It also owns the Harrison Murray estate agency group which had 18 branches in the East Midlands, including eight in Leicester and Leicestershire. David Marlow, chief executive of the Nottingham, said: "We are committed to investing in our communities and in particular supporting grassroots sports that give youngsters a chance to get involved. "Through our sponsorship of the tag rugby programme we have already enabled more than 2,000 children in 50 schools to experience tag rugby and hopefully form a life-long love of the game. "We have also engaged with more than 45,000 children and inspired them to get involved with rugby through our sponsorship of the Junior Tigers Club. "Extending our sponsorship to the Robin Hood Stand is a natural progression of our partnership with Tigers. "It further demonstrates our desire to raise awareness of our unique all-under-one-roof proposition that offers high quality financial and estate agency services and advice. "We hope to welcome many Tigers fans as members over the coming years." Trading figures for the first six months of the year show the society had branch retail savings balances of more than £2 billion – up by 11 per cent year-on-year. Gross mortgage lending was £409 million, with total assets of £3.45 billion. Group pre-tax profit was £7.1 million. AKCJ Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 I don't even like Rugby but I'm outraged. Robin Hood? In Leicester? Get to ****...
Babylon Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Are they stupid? Why on earth would you want that to happen ffs. £££££££££££££££££
AndWhat? Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Like any of their passionless fans would care anyway.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 The Shere Khan Stand would have been appropriate. Tiger related and Leicester has a lot of Sikhs.

MC Prussian Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 At one point in the future, historians will make the smashing discovery that Robin Hood never ever roamed South of Sherwood Forest. (I'd have thought such poor marketing gags to be reserved for Nottingham or Yorkshire outfits)
Webbo Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 On the list of things that bother me, this is around 643rd.
Wymsey Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Had some respect for the Tigers but this is quite odd. Should've been named after a player legend and not something over-commercialised.
Kitchandro Posted 3 August 2016 Posted 3 August 2016 Shambolic. Sums up why rubgy will never be a source of local pride anywhere. It's just a game that means nothing in society.
Finnegan Posted 4 August 2016 Posted 4 August 2016 Nottingham and Leicester aren't rivals in the rugby. Notts are a Leicester feeder club, lots of Tigers fans in Nottingham. Northampton are Tigers major local rivals. Total non story. It's ****ing embarrassing how desperate some of you are to find faults with your city's other major sports team. Dilly ding, dilly dong, wake up man we're champions league, you can stop being bitter about their success.

I take it you still wear a cloth cap, and a pair of clogs to City matches.

I find it odd that company is prepared to spend money on sponsoring something and rather than attach their name to it they choose to name it after someone completely unconnected with the place it is in. It's like a Leicester company sponsoring a stand at Anfield and calling it the Richard III stand. Does nothing to promote the company, so just seems a waste of money, and it looks odd. Why is something in Leicester named after Robin Hood? Seems like the kind of thing you might childishly joke about doing if you won the lottery, buy the rights to a rival teams ground or sponsor and the putting a stupid name on it.

The city rivalry predominantly comes from the football though. We're not exactly Sunderland and Newcastle, Southampton and Portsmouth or Liverpool and Manchester. Most of the Leicester folk I know just think Nottingham is a nice place to go shopping. I don't know a single adult that isn't a City fan that has any problem with Notts.
