We introduced this last season, however have almost adopted it as a preffered pattern of play. Watch a match back from tv and its startling just how often we go back to the keeper. Fuchs less guilty, simpson, huth and morgan obsessed with it and midfield under pressure seem more reliant on it. Given Dannys unfortunate mistake today and an opposition more prepared for it, can we expect more repeat offences this year? To me its a sign of weakness, "we dont know how else to get going, can you smash it long for us?"...

We're missing a quality midfielder. I know we got to move on from Kante but the amount of covering he did, came short, opened up gaps for Drinkwater was unbelievable. Yes Drinkwater has been our best player this season but he really needs a quality partner again.

its players looking to pad their stats, there was no reason Robert Huth couldn't have cleared the ball instead he went back to Zieler on his wrong foot putting him under pressure, we often go back 20 yards for the keeper to kick in 40, losing the ball in the process

It's our new slow build up style. The problem is with that is you need some creativity and we are pretty limited in that department. We look far better when we get the ball forward quick. Think we did it about twice today.

there's also the issue of West Brom packing men behind the ball which makes it more difficult to play quick like we did last season on many occasions.

 

I'd rather pass the ball back to the keeper and keep possession where possible as opposed to hoof it up to a tall, physical 4-man defence which includes 3 centre-backs challenging against less aerially strong players like Okazaki, Musa, Mahrez or Gray...

I didn't say anything about hoofing. Quick passes to feet is what is required. Stretch them and move their players about.

But when the ball goes back to keeper it only goes long anyway, sorry miss your point there? Surely confidence should be bred from our outfield players being those mainly responsible for effective movement of the ball and let the keeper stick to saving? Appreciate the modern day keeper needs to be able to use his feet but its still only being used as a relief of not being able to find a way of going forward or even sideways and instead left to the gk to punt long.

Its just representative of our really negative style of play at the minute. We sooner go backwards than try and create something going forwards. Maybe it just shows the lack of individual quality in our team. Players don't run at defences anymore. They sooner run half way, stop, turn around and pass it backwards. So boring to watch.
