Away game tactics

Looking at our last 2 away games at Middlesbrough and Everton does anyone think we are now playing to stop the other team scoring it may not be pretty but at the minute it does seem effective (Although we conceded yesterday). Could it be that Ranieri is getting his tactics sorted ready for Seville and we will go there with the European mentality of lets stop them scoring or hope for a low scoring game and hopefully get the job done at the KP stadium.

Yeah, agree with that.

Since the formation changes I've noticed we've become far more solid. A lot of the reason why, is because we have implemented that extra man in the midfield. A midfield three will, and is certainly aiding in protecting the defence.

He's able to play 3 in midfield now so he's using that as an alternative where as he didn't have the option before.

Plus Vardy was unavailable which probably influenced hi decision.

Should have been done months ago. It just wasn't happening for us playing our normal game this season- if we had set up more solidly earlier in the season, we would be safe in midtable.

This. It's one of those things which bugs me because I don't think we'd be in this situation had it been implemented earlier on in the season.

But hopefully we can push on now in the second half of the season, and get out of this relegation battle.

The last couple of league games have got our heads above water, it will only take a run of 2 or 3 wins and we'll be out of it.

It's stupid playing that game though because it's so much harder to get a result after conceding the first goal, and employing those tactics doesn't improve your chances of not conceding early, or from a set-piece etc by very much.

Yep, and we've got the capability in the squad to do that. Players like Mendy and Musa will hopefully continue to show their quality for us.

Like you said, all it would take is 3-5 wins and we'd very comfortable in the league standings. If we got to that stage, the question would be if we could maintain the higher position, and not get dragged in again.

Earlier in the season we did not have the midfielders to play 3 in the middle. Mendy was injured,DD banned and injured.

Amartey was a choice of neccessity, through limited options. He has improved, but was inconsistent to begin with.

Ndidi sounds like a good prospect,Mendy's return means we now have options.

I think our success last season trickled into over confidence or even naivety this season, especially away from home. You cant turn up away from home playing 442 with two of the 4 midfielders being wingers as that just leaves us overrun in midfield.

I like a 451 that turns into a 433 like yesterday, especially when the wide players have real pace and get get up to support the loan striker. I also like 3 central midfielders who can narrow the options for the opposition whilst being able take it in turns to support the forward play without leaving us short at the back.

I hope we stick to yesterdays formation but unlike the Middlesboro game, take a few more risks in the final third and get into positions where we can score.
