Basically scanned message boards and other newspapers and regurgitated it as their own. Nothing new but not normally this poor.

adejo92 Posted 3 February 2017 Posted 3 February 2017 I know there is a lot of talk about the police being heavy handed with innocent people however i have heard from people that some of the not so innocent Leicesters fans spent the lead up to the match going around various pubs in Derbyshire putting chairs through windows. I guess the police were just taking zero tolerance throughout. Expect a lot of trouble on Tuesday, albeit most of it happens away from the ground and therefore you dont realise.

I live in Derby and haven't seen or heard any evidence of that. Besides, it hardly excuses such a harsh blanket rule being applied to literally thousands of other law abiding fans does it?

I didn't actually witness any of it myself either but its just what i have heard from a friends friend who is a police officer from Leicester who was working the match. I totally agree that in no way does anybodys behaviour merit innocent fans who have gone to enjoy a game of football being pushed about. I think we shall see an extremely heavy police presence on mid week.

That's the problem, the police don't act professional at football, they class anybody as a hooligan, and don't judge people's individual behaviour, and I have experienced the police brutality, without legal grounds to use force. The police are the worse thugs at football matches, I know a few police and reading between the lines they love it, massive overtime payments, and they itch for it to kick off. After my experience of police brutality, one , I think the powers that be should stop protecting them, and hold the officers responsible for their actions, and secondly I have lost all faith in the police, and when I hear sobs stories in the news that assaults on the police have gone up, I now think, how many have they lied in, how many has their attitude contributed to it, and how many did the escalate, rather than de-escalate

Its sad that you have lost confidence in the police. Like with all walks in life, theres good and theres bad. As for assaults on police, its the same as assaults on NHS staff...Scum bags with no respect. Just so happens its the same scum bags that then call for the police or ambulance in their time of need. If you condone these assaults your as bad as the people responsible for them.

Difference is the police created my distrust, police swear an oath to protect the public, and basically be of upstanding character, with 90 % of police I deal with, I cannot say they do that, that said I only deal with them at football. And at what point did I say i condone the assaults, what I said was I don't really believe, or am suspicious of these claimed assaults, as some are frabricated, some could have been provented, some are escalated, and some are genuine, I don't trust the police, not want to see them hurt.

Fair points mate.

I'm massively pro police but at football they do seem to act different how they normally do. I don't think they realise that the only contact a lot of people have with them is at the football and they seem to act in a very aggressive and confrontational way with your average joe and this is bound to shape the way some view them.
FraserSorensen Posted 3 February 2017 Posted 3 February 2017 I did see a Police office shoving a man at the station who was attempting to purchase a train ticket (despite the barriers being open) and shouting 'If you don't move up the stairs you'll be arrested'. No questions asked, no disorderly behaviour. I understand that it's a ridiculously difficult job, however, it seems as though the same attitude is shown to everyone, even when there isn't a situation to be made. It wasn't particularly well handled the whole situation, but then again some (a small minority) of fans don't help. Some fellow Leicester fans tried to start on us on the way to the station because they thought we were Derby, and even some on the train back to Leicester, just because they could. They were 'well hard' in their stone island jackets.
