filbertway Posted 6 February 2017 Posted 6 February 2017 I don't see why it can't be seperate. Last season was last season. From June 1st a new season started. As soon as the people at the club were responsible for trying to maintain and improve upon the previous season's work, everyone to a man seems to have got it horribly wrong in the main. When I say maintain or improve, I'm not talking specifially league position. Could we improve the backroom staff, our scouting network, our playing staff and squad balance, our style of play. The squad size is probably better but the ability and balance is definitely no better if not worse. Pre season was probably the worst ever. Back room staff appears to have got worse. Playing style is awful. League position pretty terrible. The last time we regressed this quickly was probably under Peter Taylor right? So is it down to Ranieri + staff having to put their own stamp on the club properly for the first time, after mainly using the previous regime's blue print for their first season?

Great saves in the champions league and some games OK the list is small, I give in

This regression is worse than Taylor's. We were always crap under Taylor but we massively rode our luck and found ourselves top in October. Then the regression to the mean happened and we had relegation form for the second half of the season but thankfully accumulated enough points in the first half of the season. We've arguably but literally turned into the worst team in the league after being the best team in the league. Who would have thought Vardy would have scored in two league games this season and Mahrez not scoring a goal in open play?
Matt Posted 6 February 2017 Posted 6 February 2017 Could do a poll on this, would be interesting. Mid to late 90s team or this team? I think I hold the mid to late 90's team in higher regard than these chumps, certainly currently.

This team will be looked at more fondly in years to come but the likes of Izzet, Lennon, Elliott, Walsh, Heskey, etc would never have downed tools like this lot.

Heskey Vardy Baring in mind we play different systems. But that's the 1st side that came to my head.
Joefox Posted 6 February 2017 Posted 6 February 2017 Pretty much the worst cast scenario that could have happened to us the season after has actually happened. we will be remembered as 'the champions who got relegated' and even typing that makes me feel so so sad.

Option A - had superb seasons, won the league in the most remarkable of circumstances and followed it up with another good season before moving on amicably to bigger and better things Option B - had superb seasons, won the league in the most remarkable of circumstances and followed it up with demanding extortionate contracts, giving minimal effort and letting the club get relegated the season after being champions You tell me which option tarnishes the first part of each scenario. Wow, when you put it like that? It's certainly going the way of option B. I will always whatever happens have a special place in my thoughts for Ranieri, not only for masterminding the operation but for the class and panache he did it with. But....what good memories I have of Marhez and Vardy are starting to look a long time ago. At one time they might have been considered against Weller , Frankie, Lineker, Walshy, Izzet, Taggs, Emile and quite a few others but sadly they're starting to fade. You see some of the others in the past might not have had the talent of these two, yet you knew they cared and gave of their best. All very sad.
