Just for a bit of interest and intrigue...

If you were a manager of a professional top flight club, how would you dress on a matchday? Would you be the type of coach to wear a suit, tracksuit or would you alternate week to week?

How would you set your teams up to play, for example possession, counter attack or defensive?

Possession - Wanting your team to retain possession at a vast majority of opportunities / Produce a free flowing, attractive style of football / Being patient on the ball, always looking to make an opening.

Counter Attack - Absorb pressure from the opposition / Being happy to sit back & have less possession / Attack in numbers.

Defensive Install a defensive mentality to your team / Not greatly attacking / Solid back line / High number of clean sheets important to you.

Suit.

For the other two it massively depends on the context, what club you're at, players, form, opposition etc

Here is my play style (if I was a coach) if you don't mind

On 01/02/2017 at 17:01, the fox said:

A blind person can tell you that 4 defenders will not work any more. Our fullbacks are struggling to keep up with teams and our wingers can't defend and attack all game. And the lack of a box to box or a number 10 is exposing us. And with the kind of players we have, I can't think of a better formation to fill the deficiency.

The beauty of the 3-6-1 formation lies in the fact that it is not just 1 formation, I like to call it the clay formation, you ask and the formation will oblige.

Before I start, here is the list of players that I will be choosing for the formations.

GK: Kasper

DEF: huth, Simpson, amartey

WING BACKS: Albrighton and chilwell

MID: Drinkwater, n'didi

Wingers/forwards: mahrez and gray

Striker: slimani

(This is all after amartey is back from the afcon of course)

The thing about playing with fullbacks is the fluidity that it creates. You can outnumber the opposition pretty much everywhere.

the defending formation: 5-3-1-1

                  images (24).jpg

And no, Albrighton will not by my choice for right back, it will be

                             Slimani

                             Mahrez

       Gray.                                        Albrighton

                            Drinkwater

Ben.        Huth.       N'didi.       Amartey.        Simpson

                                Kasper

This formation will allow us to have numbers and the ability to counter attack in the matter of seconds

After we get the ball, we transform to a new formation

the counter attacking formation: the metodo (2-3-2-3)

                    170px-2-3-2-3_formation.svg.png

It will look like this:

                              Slimani

             Gray.---------------------------  Mahrez

 Ben------------------------------------------------------Albrighton

                            Drinkwater

         N'didi  ------------------------------------ Amartey

                  Huth------------------Simpson

                                 Kasper

Now we are overloading the wings, and we still have enough bodies in the midfield. They can't double on gray and mahrez because our fullbacks ( now our wingers) will cross the ball to arguably the best header of the ball in the PL. And they can't double on Albrighton and ben because we have two players that are great in cutting inside (one of them is a player of the year). And they can't leave the midfielders alone because they have the ability to shoot from a distance

Now, the formation for the weak teams, it is one of the best  3ATB (3 at the back) formations. Our main formation:

                              the 3-6-1 formation:

              3-6-1.jpg

This is our bread and butter, this is the formation that will keep us up.

                                  Slimani

           Gray--------------------------------------mahrez

Ben-------------------------------------------------------------albrighton

                N'did----------------------drinkwater

          Huth-------------amartey------------simpson

                                 Kasper

It may look like 3 at the back, but in reality it is just 2. Amartey will play as a link between the defense and midfield. He will get the ball. Run for 10 yards and then pass it off to drinkwater or n'didi (I think Mendy will do a better job there because he is a good passer, but ndidi is our best midfielder right now, and he is not a bad passer)

After that, the CM should play a long pass to the wings. And that will allow us to cross, cut inside or shoot from far.

Chelsea is playing this formation (more or less) and the are killing the league. Of course the have the better players but we can do bits with it too. We don't have fullbacks that can do a great job defensively and offensively and we need our wingers to provide magic without having to waste energy on defense. Chelsea knew it and did it and I think this formation is the future of the PL

I'd sign up to a fans forum and learn what I could from all the geniuses who don't have any coaching badges but are self taught experts because they took Stevenage to the Champions League on Football manager.

Alternative. Might go all Sousa v Oxford. Anyone who was there knows what I mean.

Style of play... wouldn't stick to one. Would go all out to build a side that was capable of doing both possession and counter.

Formation... primarily 4-3-3. Maybe 4-2-3-1 as the alternative. Personally believe 4-3-3 is the best formation.
