Only one player was happy - Musa. Very worrying with all the rumours we've heard this season. Maybe the subs were hoping if we get traunced in Europe they might have got a chance to show what they can do in the league. Now they know it'll be the same untouchable 11 as always and the same result to follow. And being in Europe keeps Ranieri's job safe in spite of the league form.
Livid Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 I have to believe that there is a tactical plan, they must work on something in training. I just think they are really awful at implementing it. The whole squad are playing with an appalling lack of confidence. Musa, Slimani & Mendy have the misfortune of being the new boys and seem to be getting written off ( I admit Musa has by and large looked dreadful and I was surprised he was a starter last night ) , we know from last year that the others are capable of better. Ranieri seems to be torn between sticking with players until the come good or permanently rotating, he's damned either way. Last season his tactical substitutions were excellent, this season they look strange to baffling. Last night's result was way better than the performance.
Mickyblueeyes Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Tactically we are flawed. Nothing magical will happen from now until the end of the season which will make Claudio a genius people hope he would be. What a finish like that does is revitalises self confidence. Makes the "leaders" find their voice on the pitch and grind out a few results to get us out the rot we are in. The best thing that can happen from now until the end of the season is the players self belief means Claudio's input becomes less and less. The evident tactical gaps in our play yesterday and most of this season is unforgivable. Martin picked out our problems in the half time analysis. So, yes there are problems. However, we won't get out of this hole by out thinking the opposition. It's by self belief and a bit of luck that it will happen. Rebuild in the summer.

I took the picture from one of the wrap-up shows where they were talking about it. They were talking about it after full time, but showing what happened during the match.
Fox92 Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Mahrez should be nowhere near a team fighting for survival.
EGBFitness Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 Huth. Partly at fault for penalty, poor in the air, no mobility, poor positioning, accident waiting to happen.
Kaewbudda Posted 23 February 2017 Posted 23 February 2017 It was a great effort yesterday but yes, there are still concerns. That said, if we can manage to stay up this season I will be over the moon. Then hopefully, over the summer, we can add to the squad and come back stronger next season. Central defence is an absolute priority. Yesterday was not a turning point but should hopefully give the team more confidence going into the last part of the season. Two things pleased me: 1) They actually tried to pass the ball around. 2) Heads didn't drop after they conceded the second goal. They actually started to believe in themselves again.

There are still some huge concerns for me. Wrong team selection. Musa. Why? Ok, to try and counter, but when we won the ball we didn't actually get it forward that quickly. Gray has pace as well. This isn't in hindsight, Musa has made Levi Porter look like Saido Mane all season. No clear tactical plan. ...or at least if there was, the players were confused. You either press in packs of 3 or more from the front or you don't press at all, instead sitting back and filling the space. Our front two half heartedly pressed their defence, with no support, which only created a huge gap for Nzonzi to work in. Eibar at the weekend pressed in groups from the front and it totally unnerved Sevilla. Another odd thing was that when we did win the ball back and Drinkwater recieved it, he was either very hesitant to play it long or Vardy was coming short. For once there was space in behind to exploit and we didn't want to seem to exploit it. Defence still horrendously disorganised. Simpson pushing on and not tracking back, Huth charging out for no reason, Huth not even being able to head a ball anymore, back four not keeping a consistent line, midfield still not protecting them....I could go on. Despite keeping them to 2 goals, I can't say we defended any better than previous matches. I just hope one goal doesn't paper of the cracks, well more like canons, that exist within our defence. Riyad Mahrez I have defended him a lot this season and put down his lack of form down to the fact he is being crowded out. Last night he wasn't and yet still had little impact. He also, again, looked totally disinterested. At one point he was our closest player to the ball and he was WALKING whilst closing down. I thought with it being a last 16 Champions League game he might actually do some defensive work, but no. Great result, but if there aren't changes against Liverpool and we see Huth, Musa etc it is going to kill the good feeling around the fans after last night. Totally agree. One thing I would add - I know you said you could go on ad infinitum - Wes needs the bullet. His brain has gone - Benny could not be any worse than he has been and deserves a chance. Grays problem is that he's an arrogant dickhead I believe, but CR needs to put that aside.

I think you're looking for things that aren't actually there. No, I really am not. I commented on what I saw. Obviously you saw something I didn't, I am hardly creating a conspiracy. As for Musa not seeing him - that doesn't surprise me. He can't see to see a football that is right in front of him.
