Progression in UCL

away goal is huge because it allows us to concede without too much drama. and you'd think we definitely will concede. if it was 2-0 or even 1-0 and we then conceded we'd probably be screwed.

now we can go out, attack/go for it from the off and even if we concede we still only need to win the game and it'll be ok. the pressure of having to keep tight at the back would've ruined any flow we tried to get going forward imo if we had to almost certainly keep a clean sheet.

whatever happens the pre match and first 15-20 mins atmosphere should be (hopefully) one of the best in living memory. this is history in the making.

As long as we only concede 1 - otherwise we go out with a single goal win. Could also go out on pens with a 2-1 AET.

As you say, we need to lift the atmosphere early. The immediate pregame in the group stages seemed to drop after the CL anthem. if Seville have any sense they will play keepball for he first 10 mins.

Beat Seville , then beat Bayern in the quarters, then beat Real Madrid in the semis , then beat Barcelona in the final ....... what are you worrying about ???

Would love to play Bayern just to see the meltdown of Arsenal fans if we put up a performance lol

More than happy to go in 0-0 at HT.

The onus is on them to qualify, they'll start getting edgy if it's 0-0 at 70 mins and we throw caution to the wind.

Make it a game of attrition as well as both teams suffer by expending energy. :scarf:

Having watched the farce last night that's being classed as the greatest comeback ever but was actually the greatest cheating ever (assisted by a dodgy ref that by the end was simply waiting for the 1st Barca player to have the ball in the opposition box so he could give a penalty) our percentage odds should be nil. There's no way we'll be allowed to win the Champions League. To beat one of the two big Spanish teams, not only do you have to beat some of the greatest footballers, you have to defeat some of the greatest cheats in the game (same players) and Refs who will give every decision to help them win. That's why these two clubs are always there or thereabouts. Take away the cheating and there's no way Barca would've won that game yesterday.

I'd love nothing than a shithouse anti-football 1-0 win via a 77th minute Slimani header.

I just want us to rustle some feathers.

Nah, I want another pressing game and 3-1 win and have pundits and neutrals complain about how the players are trying and scoring goals now that Claudio, the man who got us this far, is gone.

We were given some of the best refs on the circuit for our group games. (Cakir got stick but he wasn't taken in by Porto's play acting).  Clearly UEFA wanted to protect our inexperience at this level. be interesting to see who we get next week. Thought we had a decent official in Seville too.

Cakir was awful but him aside from him yes the refs have been probably better than our Premier refs. All that will change if we get through and get either Barca or Real Madrid though.

Cakir was pedantic but a less experienced official would have seen us fail to win that game as porto's European nouse would have definitely got them at least a draw. I'm not making a general point about the quality of champions league refs but more that we have been consistently given better officials than our European pedigree demands. if seems clear to me that UEFA were actually looking out for us rather than dismissing us as nobodys. I doubt there are many decent refs left for us to get next week. Would be unusual for someone to get us again before the quarters. Hope we don't get a poor one and suffer for it. There aren't many more experienced European competition sides than Sevilla.

Well, the last time this team was an underdogs they won the league. 1/5000 and look how that ended.
