There were smiles all round when Leicester City stars Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa paid a morale-boosting visit to a primary school targeted by vandals.

Children were left shocked and bewildered after intruders broke into Braunstone Community Primary, in Cort Crescent, on January 2.

They smashed windows and doors during the rampage, resulting in up to £15,000 worth of damage – and a clean-up operation which saw the school closed and pupils remain at home for the first week of term.

But those tribulations were far from their minds as the City and Nigerian international teammates appeared at their afternoon assembly on Thursday.

Headteacher Jatinder Mahil said: "It was amazing, the children have been absolutely buzzing. Everyone was over the moon to see Wilfred and Ahmed, who were so friendly.

"It's been a lovely afternoon and the children absolutely loved it – they thoroughly enjoyed themselves."

The footballers joined pupils in their afternoon assembly, before visiting each of the school's 15 classes to sign autographs and pose for selfies.

They also led a short kick-about with some of the school's 460 pupils, including two 11-year-olds in Year 6 who are footballers in City's youth academy.

Midfielder Ndidi, 20, who signed for the Foxes only days after the raid on the school, said he was shocked by the crime.

He said: "When I heard the news I said 'wow'. I was sad. But I'm happy now because the kids were happy to see us.

"They were cheering, they had smiles on their faces and it gives me joy.

"It is important for the kids because most of them look up to the guys, so I am happy."

Musa, 24, who joined City in a then-record £16.6 million deal last summer, said: "It is difficult to believe. It was a very sad moment to hear what happened.

"I don't think that such a thing has to happen. But finally, they are back in school and very happy to be back.

"It was very nice to see the children are happy."

Learning equipment for the school's nursery children was also damaged by the vandals.

Deputy head Nicky Ball said: "The children were quite shocked and bewildered. They couldn't understand why these nasty people could do such as thing to their school."

The player's visit was organised through Leicester City Football Club by Pc Tom White, of the Leicestershire force investigation unit, who was joined at the event by Braunstone beat officer Pc Anton Wilson.

Ms Mahil said: "Pc White organised this for our children to pick them up and prove that good things can come from bad things. It was amazing to see their faces."

Pc White, who spoke to the children during the assembly, said: "Given the nature of the damage and the knock-on effect it had, we thought it would be a really nice thing to arrange something positive for the children.

"And what better idea than to contact the Premier League champions?

"They were kind enough to organise for a couple of players to come down.

"It was lovely to see smiles on their faces and to see them happy."

Two people were arrested and bailed following the break-in, but no charges have been brought.

Pc White said: "Two people were arrested and enquiries have been ongoing since."

He said the school will continue to be kept regularly informed as the investigation progresses.

Whats behind that first link @davieG?

I don't know but on the website there's a video of them at the school.

Unfortunately the Merc site is terrible and doesn't copy and paste very well I have to remove the format otherwise it messes up the forum.

I think it's from a Hilton Hotel advert although it's not the picture showing on the merc site or when you click on the Hotel link.

The way that headline is worded makes it seem like they're returning to the scene of the crime.
