Ric Flair Posted 12 June 2017 Posted 12 June 2017 We seem to be doing very well at youth levels all the way up. This actually means very little, other than the fact these kids aren't scared or engulfed with pressure to see it through. Whether that makes them tougher and gives them more of a chance of progressing in to the PL remains to be seen, but it's a start.
foxy boxing Posted 12 June 2017 Posted 12 June 2017 yes unbelievable we are world champions in football, yes football albeit under 20's. a great result and we were put under tremendous pressure by Venuzuela and some of the defending was poor but the result was fantastic and rthe real question now is how many of these players will go on to play regularly in the Premier League and in the England first team!
davieG Posted 12 June 2017 Posted 12 June 2017 It wasn't just City players on international duty yesterday (see 10:58). City's head of fitness and conditioning Matt Reeves is physical performance coach with England and was part of the backroom staff that helped the under-20s to yesterday's excellent World Cup win Read more at http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/live-leicester-city-news-mahrez-slimani-amartey-and-lawrence-play-internationals/story-30384780-detail/story.html#KmVT1XxyqTklJze5.99
Kitchandro Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 Not sure why a big deal is being made of this or why they are lauding the influence of St George's Park. This is not really conclusive evidence in the slightest that the 'plan' we have is working, for numerous reasons. I doubt many of these players will have an impact at the top level, just as I doubt Venezuela will be taking international football by storm over the next 5 years. Just as we've seen with Leicester, if you're doing well at u-20/21 levels it's probably because you haven't got the best players of that age range, because those players are already making an impact at pro-level. I think it's pretty embarrassing that we're talking about this as if we've cracked it. Even if we did have a load of wonder kids we've shown that unless we can get a decent England manager they will end up being totally wasted anyway. That's the biggest problem of all and one we've shown no intention of addressing with the appointment of Southgate - a yes man with no credentials.
ScouseFox Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 tbf we could win the actual World Cup and you'd say it was just papering over the cracks
Stadt Posted 13 June 2017 Posted 13 June 2017 We've been alright under Southgate, bar Scotland we've played well in every game under him
