These sure start centres were vital in educating parents from impoverished backgrounds and really this is a symptom of their reduced numbers, if we are honest. I agree with this actually. Thing is the local authorities often decided to close Surestart centres as I believe they were the ones that funded them, they were not directly funded. Local authorities made the decisions on their budgets, there are many vanity projects still running by Labour, Tory and Lib Dem councils up and down the country. I believe that local authorities are an absolute shambles, the management of these organisations is self preserving and will often cut key services to protect their ivory towers. Education is key, there are Children's charities that do this at inner city schools across the country. There needs to be more, Surestart was one of Labours better projects of the last government. In fact, if we remove all benefits altogether then we'll be able to give each British child a full English every school morning; and we won't even need those lovely billionaires to dip into their Caymen Island accounts, which as we know, would cause the economy to immediately explode into flames. This is "a long-term solution that tackles the problem."

Local authority funding had been cut by absolutely massive amounts. You really are a complete bag of shit. Edit. Yes, this is definitely proof of me being a very nasty leftie. My preference would be the billionaires hiding their enormous wealth overseas - but I suppose that lowering payments to people on benefits still works. Well this govt have succeeded in reducing tax avoidance/evasion so you should be pleased to support them. Blaming the rich because of other people's bad parenting doesn't solve anything though.

Though who'd do any actual work to keep the country running I'm not sure......

We're all educated about smoking, unprotected sex, drinking, exercise and eating the wrong foods and yet all the problems associated with that bad behaviour are not noticeably decreasing. Until there are consequences for their faults then some people will never change. So in this instance the schools are just to let the children starve because they have bad parents? It's not the kids' fault at the end of the day, and if there's money to feed them, they should be fed by someone.

I just think that, in 2017, the Government should be able to just solve problems like child poverty without us having to have a big debate about it. For me, this is the Government's basic day-to-day job. This is why we have a Government. No its not the governments job to look after other peoples children. If people can not look after children then they should not have them. You can not keep spending more and more of other peoples money because some people are feckless.

A worst case scenario is they will be on free school meals so they will get a good meal each day at lunch. Whilst not ideal that will prevent them from actually starving.
