Football Podcasts - Recommendations Please

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hey all, As i have moaned about before, coverage of the Premier league (and football in general) in Oz is very poor.

Im just looking for recommendations for English football podcasts (especially if they have a Leicester leaning).

Appreciate your time folks :)

The Guardian's "Football Weekly" has been a mainstay of my podcasts for many years. However, as football 365 have reported (http://www.football365.com/news/exclusive-james-richardson-to-leave-guardian-football-weekly) James Richardson, the host, is leaving to join Muddy Knees Media.

Muddy Knees Media will produce the ‘The Totally Football Show’, a podcast using Richardson as host with a focus on the Premier League and European football.

I would hazard a guess that this new show will be worth a listen. I'd also suggest giving the new format of "Football Weekly" a go - it's likely to still be good.

If you want something very loosely connected to football but high on entertainment value try "Athletico Mince".

Quickly Kevin, Will He Score?

A new podcast but about 90s football, it is brilliant.

Football weekly has ended up going down the match of the day route, trying to talk about every game, even when there is little to say, very little in depth analysis, the same things said about the same incidents that every other program has said with no insight. I only still listen for the European football round up, the rest offers very little if you have watched match of the day. As you don't have access to as much coverage in Oz it could be worth it.

I like the Football Ramble, it has no pretensions and doesn't try and talk about every game, it's a bit more laddish and bantz, but for a more light hearted anecdotal account of the football I prefer it to Football weekly

Here goes (I listen to a lot of podcasts)

Leicester podcast - For Fox Sake. Really good local guys talking about LCFC and nothing else

Football podcast covering weekly issues: I would go for Guardian Football Weekly.

If you want a more interesting intellectual football discussion around issues and themes in the game but not necessarily weekly Prem or European updates then the Set Piece Menu is really good:

If you want inside interviews of one player/manager per podcast then you cannot go wrong with The Big Interview with Graham Hunter (some of these are really very good):

And Finally, I am going to throw you a bit of a curved ball and suggest A team of John O'Sheas. A podcast run by a friend of mine that is doing quite well, and I am not just saying that because the guy who runs it is a mate. Over the summer he has has been running a spin-off called A team of John O'Sheas - Summer Break, where he has interviewed fans who themselves run podacsts for their Premier League Clubs about how last season went and what their expectations are for the forthcoming season. The Leicester episode is with the guys from For Fox Sake (first podcast I recommended). You will find it on Soundcloud and i-tunes but I have included the link to the website below as I would start with the Summer Break episodes as I think you will prefer them to the more regular weekly ones.
