I still have it actually!

I remember getting it from the Club Shop, guess who was behind the counter, only THE BIRCH !!!

I must have been about 5 or 6, my mother probably bought it me. My story is nowhere near as cool :sweating:

Pretty sure this has been mentioned before. The Thais changed the shade of blue.

I'm sure you're right but I wasn't referring to the shade of current shirts. What I meant was the original 1983 shirt is darker than the replica of the 1983 shirt available in the club store.

I still have this beauty, 88-90, made by Scoreline.  Always seemed to be a touch of red trim in the late 80s/ very early 90s89_90.thumb.JPG.e511771416b776580cc77086756f6e7d.JPG

This just shouts Pleat years to me.Any shirt with the badge in the middle should be outlawed? towards the end of this ones life they moved the badge and logo to where they should have been and it looked much better. For some strange reason you couldn’t buy it from the club shop though.Might be memory playing up.Youre right about red creeping in aswell.

I know why we do it, but since the introduction of three new kits per year, I think it has watered down the affect of the kits with the fans.

A lot of them are hardly worn in many matches, in fact one season our third kit wasn’t worn at all (anyone remember that one?)  So it becomes harder to link a shirt with a particular era.

The launches of the Admiral, Umbro and Bukta kits were so rare as they only came along every two or three years, but the desire to get one was unreal.

Today you could get your son a third kit for Christmas, it will be obsolete 5 months later and maybe worn once if you are lucky.

I have seen some amazing kits recently, as an example I thought Southampton’s was brilliant last season, but it’s just a shame it has gone so quickly.

Everyone is doing it, you can’t turn you back on revenue so I don’t blame the club one bit. It is without doubt the right thing to do. But we have had some great shirts over the last few years, some excellent designs, but for me they have all gone too soon.

When not only the shirts were classy.

no shin pad, no multicolored boots... a pair of white socks and shorts you could probably buy in the high street..... Football was so much less complicated back them

Admiral (the weller) was the most amazing shirt ever. The Admiral badges around the sleeves, it was just a huge change in design and Admiral were changing the game.

I remember seeing photos, but in those days they were few and far between, and not so good quality and I was unsure if it was miniature foxes or admiral badges that they used.

I wanted that kit so badly that I was physically sick with excitement when I received it on Christmas Day. That shows how big a launch it was in those days.

I studdied every photo of our players in that, and it proved to be an iconic kit.

A few years later we changed to Umbro. I appreciate it now, but at the time it appeared a come down to having a shirt with all Admiral badges over it. A stunning simple design, but just that, simple and without an edge.

I think the only one after that that hit the button for me was the Bukta one. After years of Scoreline and not so good Admiral attempts, we had a design of our own, a great mix of blues and a vintage football brand to boot.

I suppose I have missed the Admiral pinstripe out, which is unfair. The away Ind Coupe was amazing, and I think every kid in those days just wanted these kits in those days above all else.

Great kits, great times

I've only ever had two. Both away shirts. The white 96/97 shirt, bought for a tenner in a sale at the souvenir shop, and the 2000/01 yellow one that I got for nothing when someone threw it on the pitch in disgust after we lost to Wycombe in the FA Cup quarter-final. I was in the front row of the kop and nipped over the hoardings to grab it.

Is that gold trim I can see on the collar and sleeves?
