FoxesHub Posted 26 November 2019 Posted 26 November 2019 The club have appointed Notts County's Head of Academy Operations, Claire Burrows. More info about this and the academy recruitment department's expansion here: https://foxeshub.com/leicester-recruit-notts-county-academy-chief/
Ric Flair Posted 26 November 2019 Posted 26 November 2019 Our recruitment of academy staff always seems to be a step up for them, often coming from clubs much lower down the ladder than we are. Is that something we are getting wrong in our academy? I still stand by the opinion that it should become a huge focus of ours and we should plow as much money as physically possible in to it, the new training ground opens up a world of possibilities for these younger players.

Yeah we need to start churning out players comfortable with Rodgers style football, perhaps model ourselves on Ajax's academy. We need to attract world renowned youth coaches and staff, it's out next big step as we'll have improved all in other areas and it could save us hundreds of millions in the long run. A true investment.

A true investment. The difference is that Ajax have a philosophy as a club that we don’t currently. The youth players there will have played that style of football from 6/7 years old. To force Rodgers style on the U23s would be a huge ask. Getting the much younger players to play it could work but by the time they’re matured we’ll have a different manager with different ideas. In theory it would be ideal but it seems like it’s just a step too far for a club like ours. We can’t afford the luxury of being better than the rest of the country while blooding youth in, but still challenging for titles and gaining European football like Ajax or Barcelona have done in the past. We’d be relegated, managers would lose their jobs and be completely unwilling to even attempt it (even at youth level).
coolhandfox Posted 27 November 2019 Posted 27 November 2019 To be honest the academy isn't doing to shabby already it's produced England's starting left back and another regular starting 11 player and a squad player who would get in number of PL teams. Since 2014 it's produced Chilwell, Barnes, Choudhury, Schlupp and Moore, that's not bad in my book.

It wouldn't be a step too far for a club like ours to completely restructure our academy and invest tens of millions in to it. It's also exempt from FFP and baring in mind we are building one of the best new training grounds in Europe, which groups of players will benefit from this the most? The youth players! We just need the staff and philosophy in place, I'd be amazed if Rodgers doesn't try and implement something but this should be coming from Rudkin and Top really.

We don't rest on our laurels in the goals of the first team and establishing ourselves as one of the best PL sides, one foundation of this should be an exceptional academy.
Finnegan Posted 27 November 2019 Posted 27 November 2019 We've got Barnes and Chilwell in the first team on merit, not due to desperation, Hamza is in the squad likewise. Three is a pretty high number for a Premier League team tbf. It's alright saying we need to model ourselves on Ajax but every academy in the world wants to do that, it's quite obviously not so easy in practice. Plus, Ajax have little competition across the Netherlands.

Not the investment but the philosophy will take a generation to come to fruition. I’d would be fantastic for it to happen but in reality it’s difficult to implement in the long term. One way to do it would to have our youth coaches independent from Rodgers in a sense that he doesn’t bring his own (I know he probably hasn’t), but ensure his style is followed through after his reign. Then appoint a manager that is willing to follow our philosophy rather than bring his own. The latter part is where we’d struggle in my opinion but with the new facilities and hopefully a better standing in the footballing world, it could be done but it’s still a massive ask.

Pump money in to getting the very best coaches and rather than scabbing about signing released 16-19 year olds from Villa, Norwich and Arsenal we actually invest the time and funds in to getting better talent from all around the globe. It's all exempt from FFP too to a certain extent, I'm not having it that we are getting it spot on when there's so much more we can do to strengthen our foundations through the club.

It will take time but time and sustainability is what our owners mantra is all about. We aren't building a new training ground and expanding the stadium to scratch some itch we have, the academy is a serious priority. I agree with what you're saying to an extent though, perhaps the wheels are in motion to do exactly what I'm moaning about and we might not see it happening for some time.

It would be brilliant if we pull it off, but the struggle we’ll have is not having the pick of managers like other clubs do. Especially being in the precarious position we’re in. Once we make it to the top table, we can’t afford to lose our place.

I don't disagree in principle I just think you make it sound very easy.

I only make it sound easy because what's actually happened at Leicester is Rudkin's mates have kept the same jobs since he was the Academy director, regardless of how far the club has progressed since then. At a bare minimum now we could and should be snaffling the best youngsters in the midlands, as we are the undoubted star club and in effect we won't hear or see of these players for probably 5-10 years but if that isn't happening then we are missing a trick and is one example of why our academy needs a huge overhaul. West Brom have done a brilliant job in recent years and most of their youngsters have been snapped up by the likes of Barca and Man City but the mastermind behind it is who we should have tried to get but I swear I read he'd gone somewhere like Villa or someone equally as mediocre.
Gwyn Posted 27 November 2019 Posted 27 November 2019 I'm all in, look what a great job Susan wheelan has done. Let's be refreshed by what she's got to offer...
