It’s amazing with these how some can hit you as soon as you see them and others can leave you scratching your head for the rest of the day.

As a long shot...

Carry on at your convenience

Alt:  Carry on up the Khyber

Probably both wrong but I think I know the Mercury offering, if no-one has a go then I'll make a suggestion.

Split ends?

Sadly, I suspect that the "R and R" you mentioned was "Rest and Recuperation".

I'd be more impressed if it had been "Rock 'n' Roll".....I like the idea of a country gent / squire of the manor like yourself leading a rock 'n' roll lifestyle for a couple of days, like one of these eccentric, drug-addled aristocrats.

Well I might watch one or two films a year so the films Dingbats are generally not my favourites.

One last shot on this one:  The Poseidon Adventure

"Po"?!?

Is that what you Midlanders call a toilet/WC/bog?!?

I've heard it for potty - "on the po" (possibly from the French "le pot"). But surely you're toilet-trained by your age?

What a bunch of weirdos! :D

I will quote the venerable (UK WIDE) Collins English dictionary ....    thank you ...

CF154E90-0A33-45C9-A62E-CDF4A7B32F30.jpeg

.....and here's the venerable (UK-wide) Collins English dictionary definition of "WC": https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/wc

"A toilet is sometimes referred to as a WC, especially on signs or in advertisements for houses, flats, or hotels. WC is an abbreviation for 'water closet' ".

As that basically refers you to the definition of a toilet, here's the venerable (UK-wide) Collins English dictionary definition of "toilet": https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/toilet

"A toilet is a large bowl with a seat, or a platform with a hole, which is connected to a water system and which you use when you want to get rid of urine or faeces from your body".

This compares with the definition for a "chamber pot" (po):

"A chamber pot is a round container shaped like a very large cup. Chamber pots used to be kept in bedrooms so that people could urinate in them instead of having to leave their room during the night".

I rest my case. A "WC"/toilet/bog is something different from a "po"/chamber pot/potty. Indeed, most big boys make the progression from the latter to the former by your age and therefore know the difference.

(....and please don't tell me I'm talking shit as we all are, shit and piss! :D)

I used my potty ..  or po ..   for many years and it was therefore my ‘toilet’ or ...   WC.   I recall when it was cold mater would ask the maid to sit on it first and warm it for me ...   and when it was really really cold and her bony arse just couldn’t cut it ..   she had to hold me over it until I’d done my business.   As time passed by and I passed the 10 stone mark she did struggle a bit ....
