Police are searching for four suspects after three men were stabbed in a city neighbourhood.

Two of the injured men were targeted while they were sitting in a car in Gwendolen Road, near its junction with Evington Valley Road, Evington, yesterday afternoon.

The third man was found in a street some distance away but is believed to have been injured in the same incident, although the exact circumstances remain unclear.

The incident is the third involving knives in the city in the space of four days.

Leicestershire Police said it received a call at 4.15pm reporting that the two men, both in their 20s, had been sitting in a car when a brick was thrown at its window.

They were then attacked and stabbed by a gang of men.

One of the injured men was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

The other suffered what police said they believed to have been minor injuries. However, he left the scene.

Approximately half an hour later, at 4.42pm, police were told a third man, who is also in his 20s, had been seen in Darley Street, off Melbourne Road, Highfields, and that he appeared to be injured.

Officers arrived and found that he had also been stabbed.

Detectives believe he had sustained his injuries during the Gwendolen Street incident.

He has been taken to hospital where he currently remains. His condition is described as serious but stable.

Following the incident in Gwendolen Road, four suspects are believed to have left the area on foot, making their way to Drinkstone Road and then St Saviours Road, the force said.

The third injured man was found in Darley Street

Officers remain in the neighbourhood today and are carrying out house-to-house inquiries, checking CCTV footage and offering reassurance to residents.

Detective Inspector Mark Parish said: “We are carrying out full inquiries into this incident in which three men were injured.

"One of the victims does currently remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“This incident happened during the afternoon.

"If you were in the area of Gwendolen Road, Evington Valley Road, Drinkstone Road or St Saviours Road yesterday afternoon, please think back to anything which you may have seen or heard which could help our investigation.

“If you have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, please check this and get in touch with us if you have not already done so.

“Officers remain in the area gathering information and offering reassurance.

"Please also speak with them if you have any information or any concerns in relation to the incident.”

Fifteen people have been arrested in an operation targeting foreign criminals living in Leicester, police have revealed.

Officers targeted the Narborough Road area of the city in a bid to crack down on offenders from overseas allegedly responsible for a range of crimes including robberies, vehicle crime, handling stolen property as well as drug and immigration offences.

The operation - code-named Op Old - was specifically aimed to "disrupt and target criminals from other countries currently living in Leicester".

Several of those arrested since the operation launched last week have since been charged with robbery and drug offences, with inquiries continuing into the activities of the others.

Arrests and charges made last week include:

A 40-year-old Latvian national was arrested and subsequently charged with robbery of a vehicle. He has been remanded into custody.
A 29-year-old man was stopped and arrested on suspicion of drugs offences. He was subsequently charged with possession of cannabis and handling stolen goods and has been remanded into custody.
Four Romanian nationals – two men and two women – were arrested in connection with more than 100 cannabis plants and a significant quantity of cash being recovered from an address in Oadby. One of the men, aged 44, has been charged with production of cannabis. The man, who was also wanted on a European Arrest Warrant for offences in Romania, has been remanded into custody. The other three people arrested have been released under investigation.
Two Albanian nationals were stopped and arrested on suspicion of drugs supply offences. Both have since been released under investigation.
Four Vietnamese nationals were also arrested for drugs supply offences. They have also since been released under investigation.
An Albanian national was arrested for possession of criminal property following cash in the region of £30,000 being found at an address. He has been released under investigation.
Two other people arrested have been dealt with by partner agencies. This is in relation to immigration matters.

A total of 18 vehicles were also seized during the operation, in connection with a number of different offences, according to police.

Detective Inspector Dan Granger said: "Following a similar operation last year, Op Old again saw a proactive approach taken by the force alongside partner agencies, resulting in a number of significant arrests and charges being made.

"This work is carried out through a combination of targeted patrols and as a result of information being collated and passed onto us in relation to criminals who are wanted in other countries and who are living in Leicester."

He added: "This allows us to not only trace and arrest individuals but also to safeguard vulnerable people in our communities who are at risk of harm from the crimes being committed.

"As a force, we continue to take this proactive and joined-up approach to tackle serious and organised crime affecting our communities and to bring those responsible for crime to justice."

Operation Old follows on from the success of a similar operation - Operation Once - which was carried out in Leicester last year.

A police spokesperson said: "The purpose of the operations is to bring those involved in crime both in the UK and overseas to justice and to protect vulnerable people who are at risk of harm from criminal activity.

"Much of the activity last week was focused on traffic stops with a lot of the activity taking place in the area of Narborough Road in Leicester."

Not posted in here for a while but still plenty of violence around.

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-news/after-three-stabbings-11-arrests-5680650

Three stabbings and 11 arrests in just four days show the scale of Leicester's knife crime problem

In the 2019/20 financial year, nearly three quarters (72.8%) of all serious violent crime Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland happened in the city.

And there have been more than 80 serious violent crimes involving knives in the city in every single quarter from the start of 2017 to the end of 2020 - meaning on average, there is a violent crime involving a knife almost every day.

Men are more likely to commit the crime and make up 92% of the city's knife crime suspects or convicted offenders - and they're also much more likely to be stabbed too, as they make up 93% of the victims.

The age of the victims is also particularly worrying, with 15-19-year olds by far and away the most affected group.

I used to work very close to here, and always felt sorry for the regular folk that lived there and were just trying to get by.  Saw all sorts of mad stuff on that and the surrounding roads and was always grateful that I could leave it all behind at the end of the day, unlike the poor sods that actually called it home

Admittedly it could be something else but isn't this the same scene we get when there's been a stabbing or violent attack of some sort? Something else this morning near London Road....

Update. Police have provided a full statement

We have spoken to Leicestershire Police ago and a spokesman tells officers went to a house in the London Road area earlier today to investigate a report of a domestic incident.

At some point, a man at the property climbed on to the roof and is refusing to come down.

They do the same thing for traffic accidents where there is serious injury or death.

Cheers for the update davieG.

Had a feeling my post would come back to bite me on the arse but at least it's not another stabbing.

Still, we do seem to be getting masses more than ever when it comes to stabbings and murders.

Why? Surely can't be attributable to Covid and lockdowns and subsequent stresses they brought anymore?

My only conclusions must be drugs and gangs but have they really multiplied 10 fold to account for such an increase and/or have lives just become more indispensable to those involved these days?

Major police crackdown on 'devastating' knife crime which has swept Leicester and Leicestershire
Anyone with a knife or blade can hand it in to new amnesty bins this week without fear of punishment

ByFinvola Dunphy

Leicestershire Police are joining other forces in the country in a major crackdown on knife crime called 'Operation Sceptre.'

Specific areas of the county will be targeted and 'habitual knife carriers' will be closely monitored as part of a national campaign this week.

Police across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland will be carrying out knife 'sweeps' in parks and other place as well as communicating with shops who sell the potentially-deadly weapons.

Anyone who they believe to be under 18 will be challenged and talks will take place across the county's schools to warn of the "devastating impact" knife crime can have.

It comes amid numerous stabbings in Leicester and Leicestershire in recent months including, 20-year-old Keiron Moore who died on Saturday, November 15 after being stabbed on Saffron Lane the previous night.

Detective Chief Inspector Gavin Drummond, from the Violent and Complex Crime Unit, said: "Whilst the vast majority of people don't carry knives or get involved with knife crime, we are working hard, with partner agencies, to tackle the knife crime offences that do occur and help prevent incidents from happening in the first place.

"Knives are dangerous and there is no place for them on our streets. Carrying knives or other weapons do not keep people safe. People who carry a knife put themselves in much greater danger and are more likely to become involved in a violent situation and get injured.

"We have seen the devastating impact knife crime can have, often tearing families and communities apart, and that is why it is so important to educate people about the dangers of carrying a knife and arrest those who refuse to listen."

Operation Sceptre will see police services across the UK highlighting the risks involved in carrying a bladed weapon, and the effort will take place between Monday, November 15 and Sunday, November 21.

Police are giving knife-holders the chance to surrender any unwanted knives and blades safely as special amnesty bins located at police station front counters.

The bins allow anybody to dispose of knives without the fear of being punished, unless it is found to have been used for a criminal act.

Amnesty bins can be found at the following stations:

Beaumont Leys Police Station, 2 Beaumont Way, Beaumont Leys LE4 1DS
Braunstone Police Station, Hallam Crescent East, Braunstone Town, Leicester LE3 1FF
Hinckley Road Police Station, 90 Norfolk Street, Leicester LE3 5QP
Keyham Lane Police Station, Colin Grundy Drive, Hamilton LE5 1FY
Mansfield House Police Station, 74 Belgrave Gate, Leicester LE1 3GG
Spinney Hill Police Station, East Park Road, Leicester LE5 5GY

Grace Strong, Strategic Director of the Violence Reduction Network, added: "The VRN is a multi-agency partnership determined to tackle the causes of violence affecting young people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

"The reasons that some young people carry and use weapons, including knives, are multiple and complex. The police are an active member of the VRN and play a crucial role in tackling knife-related violence, but we all have a part to play when it comes to prevention.

"By providing the right support and interventions and through involving young people and communities in the solutions, we can reduce and prevent violence.

"Accurate and balanced information for young people about knife carrying is also vital. We're pleased to have supported the police in developing the 'We don’t carry, lives not knives' information campaign for 12-25-year-olds and encourage everyone to promote these resources across their networks."
