1972 Fox Posted 8 August 2020 Posted 8 August 2020 I love reading these articles about the history of our great club. Thanks for posting @davieG.
Spudulike Posted 8 August 2020 Posted 8 August 2020 Our badge is one of the best. As a city we should give greater emphasis to the Cinqfoil. Forget the Yorkshire and Lancashire rose emblems that have only been in use since the 60's, our Cinqfoil has been around since the 12th century. We have incredible history that too often gets overlooked.

Brilliant stuff.

Brilliant stuff. I think that it wasn't until about '73ish that' Foxes' was officially adopted as the club nickname. Unless anyone knows differently?

Long Eaton Fox Posted 9 August 2020 Posted 9 August 2020 Think we're lucky to have davieG at the club. Factual, informative and a full on Leicester Fan

Gordon the Great Posted 10 August 2020 Posted 10 August 2020 P.S. I Still consider the Shield badge with crossed hunting crops to be the real City badge.

First of all, apologies for my spelling of Cinquefoil This is interesting https://britishcountyflags.com/2017/10/19/a-flag-for-leicestershire/ I have heard the Leicestershire Cinquefoil described as a Tudor Rose or relating to the War of the Roses. It's not, its much older.

I was always aware that our official nickname was the Filberts in the early 70's but it was not really used very often. Once we started being known as the Foxes it became much more commonly used. I'm not sure exactly when that transition took place but would estimate it to be around late 70's/early 80's.
