From what i saw of Bertrand pre-season he looked like a solid signing, especially on a free. Got forward well, some great set piece deliveries and brought some much needed experience to a makeshift defensive unit.

Vestergaard was more of a panic buy following Wes's injury and Evan's long term recovery prognosis, but was someone who, from what we are led to believe, had been on our radar for some time.

Was quite happy with these signings under the circumstances but now not so sure. Hopefully they will both settle into some sort of decent form if we need to keep playing them, but at the minute i would not be unhappy to see Big Dan Amartey and Thomas given a go. Thought it was a bit harsh on Amartey in particular to be dropped as soon as Vestergaard appeared to be fit.

Not writing anyone off just yet after a couple of poor performances, but do feel that with big Dan, this allows Soyuncu to play as the left side of the pairing where he seems more comfortable. In fact if we are going to continue with Vestergaard in Evans absence it may well be better pairing him with Dan, thereby keeping two CB in their preferred positions.

Never missing an opportunity to stick the boot in to poor old Claude, nearly three years after he's gone lol

That's fine, unless, hypothetically speaking of course, you were to go into another thread about a certain Spanish forward perhaps and take the moral high ground against those of us that have the audacity not to rate him.  There would be a certain irony, not to mention hypocrisy about that I imagine.

Hypothetically speaking.

As his name was brought up (not by me) I just mentioned his latest stats there, murphy, there was no further comment about it nor any personal abuse.

If people just, hypothetically speaking, mentioned the stats of a certain Spanish forward and didn't fill their boots with relentless abuse then I'd take your point.

But, sadly, it doesn't quite work for you this time. We go again eh.

Mm, there have been winners and losers in our recruitment, for every Justin there has been a Musa or Diabate. I don't think we are any better than other clubs. The Kante, Mahrez miracle is very unlikely to be repeated. The three players who largely kept us in contention last year ,Vardy, Iheanacho and Barnes have been with us quite some time. To be honest ,the transfer market is a casino , you take a punt and hope for the best. I would like us to concentrate a lot more on developing young players.

Strongly disagree with all of this. Is it true that for every Justin there's been a Musa or Diabate? I think our recruitment has been excellent on the whole for years, with the summer after the title win being a clear anomaly.

Why do you think signings as good as Kante or Mahrez need to be repeated for you to believe we're good at recruiting players? I think it's weird that you'd dismiss them just because you don't think they can be repeated. It seems very much like you're saying they don't count as evidence of good recruitment because they're too good. Very odd.

He's not in the same league in terms of ability, but in terms of profit, we have repeated those signings in the form of Maguire. If you really don't believe we're any better than other clubs at recruitment, just have a look at how much money we've taken from the rich 6 in recent years and compare that to other clubs.

I'm not denying that luck is involved in transfers - of course it is - but I think it only plays a small part. It pays to do homework on potential signings, and I think we've demonstrated that superbly over the last decade.

What didn't work?

It just made me smile  that's all, to see your name against those stats.  I can just imagine you gleefully googling them but would you have posted them if they were positive?  Of course not.

It was a perfectly innocuous post of course, I didn't mention or imply abuse and I have no objection to it, but it made me smile because it reminded me of the days when you were number one Puel-basher.  Well top three anyway and that's fine but then you are so often sanctimonious about criticism directed to a certain other player, popping up to label everyone 'haters' or something equally tiresome.  It doesn't hurt to remind you that you are not above having a whipping-boy of your own from time to time, that is all.

1 The analogy - and therefore the accusation of hypocrisy.

2 I pointed out what was going on with the behind the scenes toxicity which some chose to believe and some didn't.

Tell you what, I'll give you a positive CP stat. He won a more than decent 8 in 16 games towards the end of last season to keep them up.

(Won 1 in 28 either side of that run - so 9 wins in 44 overall - but let's pretend I didn't mention it lol)

Regarding scouting, I was just looking at the 'staff' page for analysis and recruitment on the website, https://www.lcfc.com/teams/staff/performance-recruitment, and I noticed that of the scouts only Callum Smithson - Head of Technical Scouting is still with the club.

The other two, Jose Fontes - First Team & U23 Technical Scout, Tom Thacker - U23 Recruitment Officer, have moved on. Who has replaced them?

The analysts, Andy Blake and Matthew Edge are still with the club.

I am wondering if there is a need to freshen things up in the backroom.

Also... it is important that such functions are independent of the current manager

Definitely, I've been a big proponent of that for a long time. We should have our approach as a club, and the manager should complement that.

Do we know if these positions have been hired?
