Quick question if any of you guys can help as I'm not a fan of apple myself.

My FIL's eyesight has deteriated so much he can no longer see high phone screen. This means messages are a waste of time and he can't even see the football results.

I was thinking and looking into getting him a Apple TV box so he could wirelessly cast his screen to the TV and hopefully see things a bit better.

Before forking out £150 on a piece of kit I've never used before, I wondered if anyone on here had any feedback on whether this would work? I'm sure I could set it up but once done is it easy to cast? Could you do this with Siri? Any thoughts or feedback would be much appreciated 👍

I use Apple TV all the time both at home and work, I generally use it with my iPad to screen share with others in the room.
Really easy to use, and can project a video,

picture or anything else that is on your phone/iPad on to the bigger screen.

I am far from any sort of tech expert, but this is really easy to use. Once you run through it with him, I can see how beneficial it would be. I have a person at work who uses voice commands to do everything including screen share.

Im not so sure how you set this up, but I’m sure a quick Google search or visit to the apple store when you purchase they will be able to set it up for you.

How old is the TV? My LG is only a couple of years old and about a year ago Apple finally enabled AirPlay for non Apple devices, saving the need to buy an AppleTV. So it might be worth checking if there’s an update on your TV.

Thanks guys, no idea how old their TV is but would guess it's probably 5-7 years old from when they moved house so may not be so easy (I will check though) but I have no issue paying for the box if it works and @Aus Foxhas hit me with exactly the response I was looking for.

Thank you everyone.

I think most smart TVs have this feature.

If he doesn't have a smart TV but his set at does have an HDMI socket, he can cast to that via a firestick.

I believe you can only cast android phones through firestick.

He has a smart TV but more than a few years old and if it's anything like mine which we bought at a similar time, alot of the features are clunky and not very user friendly compared to other options on the market.

It needs to be pretty seamless and super simple because whilst he is pretty switched on, his sight has really gone to shit.

Agree, it could be difficult if his TV is a older model (by today's standards) but just so you are aware incase it is a viable option, are you aware of this?

Just start leaving kids toys on his stairs and wait for the inheritance to roll in.

Although tbf I’ve been trying this for 10 years and it still hasn’t worked.
