It’s still homophobic whether it’s based in religion or not. Religion shouldn’t really give you and excuse to say hurtful things unchallenged.

A religious view can be homophobic.

 

Still, I think "I think homosexual should be able to do what they want yet I'm against gay church weddings" is fairly mild. He'd join the liberal wing of my family should he wish a transfer in.
