I always remember how people were desperate for Ranieri to give him a chance and when he finally put him in against West Ham in the league cup, the guy gets a one on one with the keeper and instead of slotting it away or even going round him, he tried to chip him and just chipped it into his arms. I think it was the last time he featured and Ranieri came out and said publicly it would best for his career to move on.

File him in the folder that contains Gokhan Inler, Adrien Silva and Ahmed Musa.

Not having that at all.

Kramaric was always clearly talented, just never as good as Vardy, which is no shame.

It was always clear he was a good player and would do elsewhere though we were absolutely right to let him go as Vardy was always better.

Nothing like Inler, Silva and Musa - who were just never good enough. I’d file Kramaric alongside Dennis Praet or Max Gradel - who were players who you could tell were clearly talented but were just unlucky enough to have better players ahead of them at the time.

And only two now remain.

Next up:

Bench warmer turned first teamer vs First teamer turned bench warmer.

Grudge match.

Well, if both of them get game time they may well be directly up against each other.

Good points, but I can't recall who kept Gradel out.

Wasn't it just an early, still learning Pearson being reluctant to play unreliable youth? I know first hand (actually, second hand, but reliant nevertheless)  that Mattock felt that Pearson  didn't trust youth and left accordingly (berner being picked over Mattock, right?)

Berner was much, much better than Mattock ever was.

Gradel was pretty much first choice in League One but despite his skill he wasn't particularly effective compared to Dyer on the other side. Only when we got promoted did he get shipped out.

Off the thread theme here, but Pearson/ Walsh had a monstrously good debut summer window that year. Dyer, Hobbs, Berner, a very respectable Morrison, the arsenal lad was a bit ordinary but half OK, a succession of decent keepers on loan, Cleverly and of course, the game changing, season defining 5 games of Mark Davies

Berner was a far better player than Mattock and Mattock was our weakest link when he was in the side and Pearson giving him a chance when he wasn’t really good enough goes against that.

Gradel was largely kept out the side by Matt Oakley playing on the right of midfield I think

Mattock played 30 league games at least that season under Pearson. Regarding youth, that League One side was a blend of experience and youth and if that was true it's unlikely he'd of signed numerous young loanees and young players from lower leagues.

Missed off Tunchev, who surely would have ended up in the Prem had he not been injured so often. Calling Gilbert ordinary is a bit harsh, I'd rather we signed him than Robbie Neilson the following summer.
