He's won 4 league games in 3 years pal

Not 3 full seasons though eh Ric lad? He’s had 7 league games here and won 2. Not ideal but it’s a work in progress.

Not ideal is quite the understatement there pal. That 1.3 PPG needs to rise to 2.1 for the rest of the season, so the W.I.P needs to go through the gears very quickly. Gulp

I don’t think that’s the saving argument here.

It instead highlights what an absolute disaster his spell at Rangers was where his advantage over 10 other clubs was such a gulf. Worringly that has a massive similarity at our club too

And the work in progress argument wears thin when Martin has fully orchestrated the construction of said squad to the cost of anyway between £7m to £9m. A lot of the players are his selections

No other manager in the history of the division has failed to succeed when those sums of money are being used.

I’d like to know what the sacking criterion for the give-him-time brigade is.

0.5 ppg? 1 ppg? 10 points off the play offs? Or is it they’ve set their stall out and actually they just don’t think he should be sacked no matter how bad it gets?

To be fair even i'd not walk him just yet I don't think, but he's on thin ice. We're at risk of wasting time though, at what point is promotion still achievable is the trigger point.

Don't blame you mate, good to recognise when something is making you feel worse and step away. We do have plans to start doing less current stuff and more nostalgic stuff as we (me mostly) are sick of having to talk about how bad we are but it can't be dressed up any other way.

Thanks for listening over the last 4 years, appreciate it.

91/92 season special please.

Prior to the season, if is it was posited that we’d lose 4-0 at home to Oxford and draw 1-1 after being 1-0 against 10 - you’d say he’d deserve the sack

There’s no saving argument needed. No club is sacking a new manager after 7 games. Particularly when that club was fully aware of the Rangers situation when they signed the manager.

I’m surprised that I seem to be one of the few on here that thinks giving a manager of a brand new team more than 7 games is reasonable.

Sacking a manager after 7 games when a very new team is mid table and a couple of points off the playoffs is just wrong.

I know we ain’t sacking the manager. King Power won’t sack a manager whilst the club is up for sale. Have I argued sacking him?

But Martin keep making a dog’s dinner at one of the easiest jobs in the 92 this season, and the fans get on his back, he will pressing the eject seat in an attempt to save some form of reputation

Don’t know where you get your figures from. We’ve spent less than £7m in a season where we have also sold £43m in talent excluding undisclosed fee sales. The record sum is actually the amount of negative net spend. This club has reduced its talent pool by £37m.

We spent the best part of £5 million on three players alone.

The net spend is irrelevant. No other club in the division is spending £5m on transfer fees this summer.

No other manager is being afforded that sum of money to shape the squad of his own making and selection

It is relevant. It just doesn’t fit your narrative. Fair play. All I’m saying is 7 games with this amount of change in the squad is way too early to sack a manager. I don’t know if Martin is the answer. He might not be but 7 games ffs

After the upheaval of the squad and let’s be honest, the asset stripping of key players over a sustained period, after two full seasons of loss after loss after loss and back to back relegations and with a toxic fan/ owner relationship,  this is most definitely not one of the easiest jobs in the 92 this season.

We have a budget and transfer kitty without those sold players larger (and by some distance) than the 23 other teams in the division. How their budget and transfer kitty is arrived to is irrelevant.

Martin has built this squad of his own choice and selection. He’s the bloke that’s brought in the squad in your own opinion you don’t think is that strong.

This type of squad rebuild or refresh on a decent budget really wasn’t a problem for say Chris Davies at Birmingham or Phil Parkinson at Wrexham or Barry-Murphy at Cardiff. They used such a budget to buy a squad that didn’t need time to develop or settle. They got straight into winning games of football.

It is when your budget is ten to fifteen times higher than twenty two teams in the division.

The advantage is so huge that you can give the pick of players to form the squad how wish that no one else in division can do.

As I’ve just typed Birmingham had some major vibes when they went down and Chris Davies delivered a record breaking season in such circumstance.

Easy job

I don’t think anything comes close to the Leicester decline tbh 2 consecutive relegations. I’m surprised you’ve used Birmingham to back up your argument too

. They actually improved their squad from the relegation season - spending £30m in League 1.

Other than Fatawu and Monga, who have we sold this season that has weakened us?

We raised over £100m in transfers in the summer of 2023 and spent about £40m, did the same apply then too?

£7-10m is massive money to shape a squad at this level.

It really is though.

We/Russell just decided to make it much harder for ourselves.

Imagine that we did what United did for years under Sir Alex, they just bought the best players from the division to improve their squad/weaken the opposition.

Imagine if we spunked the Cullen money on Cleary as just one example.

We have a bloated squad yet have about 2/3 players at best who have the ability to run past a player and one DM in Lundstram.

We all know that Martin’s not being sacked but this toxic positivity about him/his work in progress is worse than calling out the obvious flaws IMO.

If you flip the work in progress on it's head to the opposition, it holds more credibility. The stats of all the teams we've played will make for better reading and show more indicators that there's scope for improvement, i.e creating more chances but not finishing them, not making as many defensive errors etc.

It’s been a:sustained reduction in quality over the last two seasons Ric. We have a net combined profit of £100m and we spent nothing in the Championship relegation on transfers and that includes loans. This represents a significant reduction in overall quality. Less than £7m has been spent plugging holes we couldn’t fill last season.

I don't want to keep swapping and changing managers. I wanted to get on board with Martin, and it still might work out.(not sure it will)

That said, if you look at his past jobs other than 6 months at Southampton it shows nothing other than Midtable finishes or abject failure.

I think Martin will get time, but he needs to start winning games consistently and have us near the top of the league. Being 13th in league one is unacceptable, the fact we have even been in the bottom 4 is awful.
