Cheers for that! Interestingly, I've got a series S so will not have the split-screen co-op mode - have you played that mode much and do you think it will be a big miss?

So, I actually started playing split screen a week or so ago. I love BG3 but I hate the split screen.

It makes me a little sad that Lego games back in the fvcking 00s perfected split screen coop cameras and a major title like BG3 can't. Lego games merge in to one single camera when you're stood on the same screen and only separate in to split when you run apart. I'd love BG3 if it did that or at very least merged for combat.

It does not. I guess if you have a fvck off massive TV or just better vision than me its maybe not so bad but I was disappointed with it.

Again, I love the game and I'll keep at split screen for the sakes of my partner but unless you specifically are buying it to play with someone you won't notice it tbh.

Decided to buy this as I was intrigued when it won GOTY.

I have never played Baldurs Gate, or any type of D&D game so I am very much a newbie. So far I am just wandering around having no clue what I am doing, I watched a beginners guide on YouTube to give me a headstart but my god there is so much to learn.

Finding myself struggling to keep people alive. So any items of wisdom people would share would be greatly appreciated

Is there anything in particular you're struggling with or would like to know?

Not anything specific, just any little thing that i should prioritise, or things to help me in battle.

Ive played a few hours now, I am starting to get my bearings but i have no idea on say what classes work well, are there any good classes that work well together?

Any spells of things you would recommend i focus on?

Ive got 1 character dead, how easy is it to revive people? I have ran out of scrolls so i dont know what other ways there are to revive people.

I did a lot of going back to "pre battle" saves while I was getting used to it.

The one thing that really helped me in battle was focus on the order that people attack you rather than size or location. Reduce the numbers down as soon as possible.

I'll have to revisit the game at some point as was enjoying it and starting to make progress but spent an age trying to beat one area and then straight away ended up going into another similar battle and wanted a break. Never made it back to it.

The first couple of levels are definitely the most difficult I would say, just because of how few tools you have to affect battles. By level 3 everyone will have their subclass unlocked, level 4 gets you your first feat, level 5 lets most martial characters attack twice with their action and gets spellcasters 3rd level spells which is when they start to get really powerful. As @syston_foxsays, saving often and focusing targets are both very good habits to get into. I would also personally say that healing during combat is a bit of a waste because you're likely not going to outheal incoming damage without expending all your best spell slots, which you could just use to kill the enemies and prevent the need for healing. Rest at camp often because the world is absolutely crawling with supplies (pick up all the food you find and then send it to camp so it doesn't weigh you down), it fully heals everyone and progresses quests and relationships.

I wouldn't worry about combinations of classes necessarily, more having a good mixture of capabilities i.e. single-target damage, area damage, crowd control, buffs and so on. It's nice to have someone with high Charisma for dialogue, someone with high Dex for picking locks and disarming traps. I like bringing a Cleric because they're very versatile and martial characters like Fighters tend to outperform spellcasters early on, but having said all that you can more or less just bring whoever you like. Most problems you encounter will have enough potential solutions that you shouldn't feel punished for not bringing a specific character or class.

As for spells, things that help you land hits more reliably are good early on - Bless gives +1-4 on attacks, Faerie Fire makes enemies easier to hit. Despite what I said about healing in combat, Healing Word is very useful because it allows you to revive downed allies from range and is a Bonus Action to use - it doesn't do much actual healing so they will often just get downed again but that means enemies are essentially wasting their turn. Clerics and Druids get Guidance which is +1-4 to ability checks and is a cantrip so can be used endlessly at no cost. If you are using Gale and/or Wyll as casters then you can give them a shield to make them a bit less squishy. Don't use Shadowheart or Astarion's Firebolt cantrip because it uses their Intelligence modifiers which are not good.

To the north of the starting beach there's a little dungeon where if you fully explore you will meet a nice old man who can revive dead party members for 200g. You can also use him to change classes and respec ability scores for both you and companions. I rarely do the former but almost always do the latter because most of them start with sub-optimal stat spreads.

That's great, some really good info thanks.

So ive just killed the goblin leaders, the final one was brilliant, he was stood next to a hole so i shoved him, he fell into a room with 2 big spiders. He wasted turns attacking the spiders (allowing me to pick off the minions) then he was stuck and i easily picked him off with range attacks with the high ground. as you say once i got to level 4 and unlocked some additional stuff ive found the fighting a bit more bearable.

I was wasting time trying to take out a high HP enemy, now i pick off all the little guys just to reduce the numbers.

I need to spend some time studying my companions, ive kind of just upgraded whatever and not really selected spells properly. Just going with random things.

Also i have misplaced Gale's clothes so he is in camp with a pair of pants on lol

This game has taken over my life. I am now into Act 3 and about to enter Baldur's Gate. Never realised how complex D&D is. Big respect for people who are into it, so much to think about.

I wont go into too much detail about how im doing, Lets just say it wont be long until tentacles are growing out of my face lol

Astarion is the best character, makes me howl lol

I'm keen but it seems to be at a premium price through X-box.

Anyone got a copy of the game they'd be willing to part ways with for X-box? I'd rather pay someone off here than shell out £70 or whatever for a digital copy from Microsoft.

Sadly - looks like this is limited to only a 3 disc spectacular on physical copy that costs £100ish.

Brilliant - price gouging at its finest.

Anyone got any lines on download codes that won't break the bank? DM me if so.

There have been problems with the physical release, keeps getting pushed back.  Should have been mid May.

I'm tracking it as I refuse to pay 70 quid for a digital game I can't move on that eats the limited storage space I have.

I can see myself getting round to it at some point next year at this rate lol

Exactly where I'm at. I cannot justify paying top dollar for something that isn't physical.

If I can't sell it and have to delete it when I'm done to play other games then I don't own it in any way. May as well sell monthly licenses - £3 a month to access the game.

Im also in the camp of wanting physical copies so i could trade it in but its £58 on PS5 so i thought i would finally treat myself.

Ill say one thing, if i paid £70 for it it wouldnt bother me in the slightest, it really is a good game, i can already tell there is so much replay value

Glad you're enjoying it, one of the best games released in years but appreciate it isn't going to be everyone's taste.

I owned 1 and 2 on PC back in the day.  My main concern is how the modern game is adapted to work with a PS5 controller.  Surely a mouse and keyboard is far superior or perhaps it doesn't hinder the game too much with a controller?

Yeah I played it on PC so can't comment on how it feels. Presume @kingcarr21can provide a view on how it plays on controller?

Outside of battle You have 2 options when it comes to movement. Turnbased so your controller acts like a mouse so you click somewhere and your character will head to where you clicked.

Or you can control the character directly.

In battle it's turn based only, you press R1 to bring up a wheel which has all the available spells, potions, commands etc.

I very rarely use mouse and keyboard so I can't really comment on whether the game works on controller. I've found it quite easy to use

My girlfriend bought the ps5 version, I thought it was awful personally.

It's an incredible game but the controls felt so bad on controller.

Good thing for me is i have nothing to compare it to, so ive not really had any issues with the controller. Still loving the game and dont want it to end

Similar to me - never been one for PC gaming but can see the benefit of it a game like this.

I really need to pick this back up and get stuck in.

One concern I do have is that I remember I never came across one of the main characters when I was meant to and not sure if I will ever come across them now or that boat has sailed..... only one way to find out!

Finished my first play through. Couldnt put it down. Really enjoyed it.

Glad you enjoyed, it's a masterpiece. Official cross-platform mod support coming in September so if you find yourself hankering after a second playthrough you should be able to do so with more classes, spells, equipment etc.
