Leicester Food Festival poster

Half price tickets for a new food festival in Leicester are now on sale. The Leicester Food Festival is to be held in Abbey Park this summer over two days.

The event will bring together local food, independent makers, street food vendors, local brewers, bakeries, distillers and more, organisers said. There’ll also be a “bespoke artisan food & makers tent” with more than 100 market stalls inside.

The tent, set up by Midlands Makers, has been called a “brilliant opportunity for any small business to showcase their items,” by Visit Leicester. There is also plans for a “programme of brilliant local bands,” an interactive story tent from Leicester based children’s publishers Sweet Cherry Publishing, a children’s craft tent, plus many other activities for children over the weekend.

The festival has also teamed up with the local Billy Bates Fun Fair for the weekend, where all tickets for the festival will give you free entry into the fair via a designated walkway. Representatives from Leicester City in the Community and Leicester Riders will also be attending to “engage and energise our local community with some fun activities,” organisers said.

For the grown ups, you’ll be able to indulge in wine and cheese tasting, as well as enrolling into ‘Gin School’ with masterclasses able over the weekend. There’ll also be entertainment from Coldplay and Ed Sheeran tributes.

A spokesperson for the festival said: “We‘ve got loads of great producers, food and drink businesses, cafes and restaurants here in Leicestershire and want to really shout about them.

“Our main aim is to highlight and build Leicestershire’s food and drink reputation and really put us on the map. Leicester Food Festival is very much a natural extension of this ethos.”

Early bird tickets for the event which is set to be held on Saturday, August 10, and Sunday August 11, can be purchased for £5 for children and £7.50 for adults. The festival will run from 11am-9pm on the Saturday and 11am-6pm on the Sunday.

Tickets can be bought at the Leicester Food Festival website.

We’re proud to announce that Sykes Lane is the first (and currently only) inland bathing water location in England to be awarded the Blue Flag and Seaside Award, as well as being a Green Flag awarded site. 💚💙
These awards from environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy

And this wouldn’t be possible without the care, passion and hard work of our entire team and volunteers who work throughout the year to keep our park thriving all year round.👏
Mark your calendars 📅 Sykes Lane will be open for bathing from next Saturday the 25th May.

All Sikh Temples/Gurdwaray offer free hot food.

I went to a 999 call at the temple at the Gypsy Lane/Catherine Street junction (forgive me I can't remember the name). The call was dealt with on scene with no transport required. We were offered, and accepted, food from the people there. Exceptional and very much appreciated.

We were told that, as you say, it's what they all do, regardless of your beliefs. :appl:

Great Central Railway offers 'exciting' £1 deal to dads this Father's Day
Dads of all ages can take part in the event and take a scenic tour of Leicestershire this weekend

Dads can travel for just £1 at one of Leicestershire’s most loved attractions this Father’s Day. People are being urged to book their place on a nostalgia-filled day and get on board with some brilliant bits of steam train history.

The rallying call comes from the Great Central Railway (GCR) which is hosting an inclusive event this Father’s Day (Sunday, June 16). Available to fathers of all ages, the heritage railway is offering travel on its trains for just £1 when accompanied by a paying child - whether young or old.

The ‘Dads for a Quid’ event means all father figures can explore the GCR’s vintage steam trains and enjoy a scenic ride through Leicestershire before stopping off at one of their cafes or tearooms.

Malcolm Holmes, GCR general manager, said: “What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than with a day full of big boys’ toys! This is the first time we’ve offered dads the opportunity to go for a quid and we’re really excited to welcome families and their father figures to experience all that the Great Central Railway has to offer.”

The ‘Dads for a Quid’ initiative applies to families of all ages, so there is no limit to those who can take advantage of the £1 offer. The Father’s Day treat can be added to individual tickets for families coming to the GCR this weekend.

The GCR runs between Leicester and Loughborough and its team has made clear that all children - whether six or 66 - will need to buy their own ticket while their dad gains entry for £1. Ticket Options at the Great Central Railway include:

Children aged 3 to 15 - must purchase a Children's Day Runabout Ticket
Children aged 15 and over - must purchase an Adult Day Runabout Ticket
Mr Holmes said: “All the family are welcome to come and join Dad, even the family dog, so why not come down and join the fun.”

People can purchase their tickets online and during checkout take part in the event by adding on a ‘Dads for a Quid’ ticket. More information, including ticket prices, can be found on the Great Central Railway website.
