I mentioned that there were player profiles published alongside the illustrations, and it's a measure of the care taken over the project that the profiles and the pics would often match up.

Here's an excerpt from the Joe Blackett profile:

And in the picture you can see him doing just that - raising one leg and scraping the ball down with the sole of his boot:

I mentioned those player profiles that accompanied the illustrations. They were great too - written by 'Old Fossil',  a candidate for the best football writer in the history of the Mercury.

Here's the profile of Jimmy Blessington:

Over on Bentley's Roof a poster called 'Channy6thswan' mentioned he'd actually got hold of a set of Fosse cigarette cards from way back when. They are from the 'Cope' company.

Here they are:

They're from five years after the Mercury illustrations. 1910/11 season.

Was Threlfall the goalkeeper?

Shame we didn't go with the history and uniqueness of Leicester Fosse, The Fosse especially now the City is used by everyone to mean Man City

kushiro - what a superb post!

Really interesting: I had no idea about these cards in cigarette packets; googling Arthur Chandler (perhaps the only name I know until after WW2 ) I see he was featured on a Gallerher's cigarette packet card.  Any idea when cigarette cards started and ended?

I have quite a few cards involving Leicester city including a set produced by Pinnace (See photo). Also anyone spot the error on the Neil Lewis card in the Subbuteo Squads series :D.

It looks like he's wearing a keeper's jersey, doesn't it?

But he was a winger. He scored a famous goal at Leyton in 1910 that put us into the FA Cup quarter finals for the first time.
