After living in Italy for 4 months I’d agree with all of the above.

The pistachio paste stuff is ridiculous.

On a slide side note on the subject, while in Naples I corrected an Italian on the way to pronounce Pistachio and it remains one of the biggest twattish moments in my life which is some achievement.

When you tell a Southern Italian it's pronounced "Piss-tashioh":

That it’s actually ‘Nights in White Satin’, not ‘Knights in White Satin’. I had previously had an image of heroic figures on horseback with lances, except dressed in white satin instead of suits of armour. Feel a bit underwhelmed now 😢

  • Saw this chain coffee shop yesterday, near London bridge station. Sailing a bit too close to the wind (brand infringement)? Or is it just me who associates FCB with a football club in La Liga?

FCB Coffee

Probably give it a miss. Allegedly they bribe inspectors, give junior baristas HGH and are saddled with massive debts for their new coffee shop whilst trying to form a breakaway coffee league.

Some pistachio goodies picked up from a patisserie in Pozzallo last year.

I think in Muslim cultures sugar is a vice a bit like alcohol is in Northern Europe, and Sicily was very influenced by the Arab world. I remember making some English deserts for my friends in Palermo and they always liked them but would be spooning large quantities of sugar on them to make them more palatable.
