Sad state of affairs. Also going off in Albania to. Dread to think what we would be like if Reform got a foothold in Westminster. Hopefully they dont but could see similar things happening here if they did.

I agree. I suspect the streets would become quite lawless as the Reform followers would become emboldened to behave like this and not have any come back on them. For all the talk about two tier society now, wait for it to go even more so in the opposite direction if we found ourselves in that position of them in power.

I also preemptively blame a hypothetical Reform UK government for the ultra left in France looting shops and burning historic buildings.

All the facts now indicate that the two tier society is already in that direction. I agree though it will get much worse,  frightening really

...and just wait and see what happens when a squeeze on any one or many of a number of vital resources becomes really apparent.

We live in interesting times.

Oh well at least the schools will benefit.

I must confess, I am a little curious about what is so difficult about improving the French school network that things have gotten to this rather awful stage.

Not sure I personally believe the motive behind these looting rioters is welfare and financing of the school system.

Are we really going to believe the destruction in France is simply justified protest that got a bit out of hand. What other groups acting in bad faith I wonder

I'm tentatively inclined to agree, but the question then follows; why would this be happening now? Why not last month? Or the next?

If the answer to that is opportunism extending from the protests that initially broke out in this instance, then the fact remains that if the school issues had been looked at, there wouldn't have been such an opportunity for the ones who just want to smash things up and loot.

The word terrorism implies that terror is imparted. I'm not scared by people vandalising stuff. If people were actually harmed, that would be different.

Also, if violence is used for political change then the Allies in WW2 were terrorists.

Wonder if you would feel the same if your business or place of work was looted or burnt down. How much care do you think was taken before a place was torched

Authorities bear responsibility for conditions of schools, education etc but protesters have to take responsibility for their actions too

Yeah, no disagreement there.
