🦊💙 Running for a Cause – Team Leicester City 💙🦊

 

This October, I’ll be taking on the Prostate United challenge once again – running 5km every single day throughout the month to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

 

Proud to be doing it as part of Team Leicester City, flying the flag for our club and our community while supporting a cause that affects so many men and families across the country.

 

This will be my third year taking on the challenge – and at nearly 52 years old, it’s not getting any easier! But it’s a cause close to my heart, and something I feel passionate about continuing to support.

 

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK, and by getting behind this campaign, we can help fund life-saving research and raise vital awareness.

 

If you can spare a few quid or just help spread the word, it would mean the world 🖤🩵

 

Let’s show what the Foxes family is all about – together, we can make a difference.

My dad just won his battle against prostate cancer. What was vital it was captured early on. Just shows get checked out straight away better chance off successful treatment.

Respect to @Claudio Fannieri for his continued fund raising.

 

In August 2023 I got around to getting a PSA test, at the age of 53. My dad had prostate cancer in his 60s (and recovered), and my mum died of breast cancer in her 30s. Both make you higher risk. I'd noticed during COVID I was waking most nights to go for a piss.

 

The PSA test is simple, it should not put off anyone.

 

Turned out my PSA was a bit high, and after further tests, scans, biopsies, etc I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I can't fault the NHS and I had a prostatectomy in January 2024. And fortunately a full recovery.

 

If anyone has any worries or doubts, there is no reason not to get a PSA test. Just demand it from your GP. 

 

Prostate cancer is surprisingly common. But easily treatable, just don't ignore it!

I am the same as @Plastik Man in that I have prostate cancer and have posted before on here about it, but also feel I need to tell about it again. 

 

I had my prostate removed nine years ago, and all was well for just under 5 years, when my PSA started to rise again. After various scans it had been found to have come back and spread to my spine, probably due a drop of infected blood left during the biopsy or surgery. There is no cure for me as it has gone into bone, but with treatment, the growth can be stalled from growing for a while. I have had radiotherapy and am currently on hormone therapy, so just take four tablets a day and a 3 monthly injection. My PSA level is low at the moment (0.6) due to the treatment I am on. Hopefully this will stay like this for a while.

 

What @Claudio Fannieri is doing again is amazing and cant thank him enough for not only raising money for research, but to raise awareness to as many men of this awful disease. Prostate cancer can and does affect any man, no matter who you are and what you do.

 

I feel fortunate that my treatment has given me time to do a few bucket list things, the biggest was to walk my daughter down the aisle last December, something I didn't think I would be able to make.

 

Thank you again for putting you body through all the pain again this year, you are truly a legend.

Well done on the fundraising effort you are going to 25-50%men will die with (not necessarily of) prostate cancer, but thanks to research and new treatments prognosis is improving.
