I'd rather decorate that go to a Leicester game these days.

Both involve watching paint dry.

It doesn't need explaining again we saw how many goals came from Thomas's side last season. Both CB are going to make mistakes on the ball - Nelson's injury is a big blow. I'll reserve judgement on McCarthy for now after only one game but we need sort these issues - and fast

I won't. He's crap. He was crap at Southampton, why would he be different here?

Want to see a marked improvement versus Burton.

I never, ever thought I'd be reading this about our team.

Regarding the players you mentioned and why we didn't do better with them..part of the problem was that Rodgers seemed to be happy to see us struggle and even be relegated, just to prove a point. It was difficult to believe that narrative at the time (2021-22), but when you see how he behaved at Celtic after leaving us, it all does make sense and paint a damning picture of him and his methods. The bloke becomes toxic after a while.

He is now done as a manager. Will never again have a proper job.

If any more proof was needed, just look at what he's prepared to do (and say) in Saudi to promote his own bank balance.

I recall Liverpool fans warning, when he got the job here, that the atmosphere between him and the players, fans and executives would turn sour.

Then there was the KDH story of him beating Rodgers at pool and getting loaned out to Blackpool very soon afterward. The ego of the bloke is monumental.

He inherited a fine squad of players, won the Cup, but it all went downhill from there. Football is a mercurial mistress.

We can still get automatic promotion right?

Yes  - if we win our 45 games in hand.

Any manager and any owner who believe possession football at anything other than the absolute elite levels is a clueless moron. Even in the elite teams we are starting to see a shift from complete possession based nonsense.

we won the Premier league with one of the lowest possession stats ever, if not THE lowest for title winners.
Possession is fine, but actually doing something with the ball, being progressive, quick and deadly is the key.

Possession football isn’t what league one needs and Brussel Fartin is an absolute joke. His hairstyle is about 20 years out of fashion and his insistence upon possession based football in-spite of the obvious just tells me he’s an utter moron. A chancer.

Fully agree.

Also if you are going to play possession football surely you dont play Cullen as one of your main midfielders who likes to go hiding during games.

It's like Martin doesn't even understand what is required to make possession football work. You need 10 players who are constantly wanting the ball and are available to receive it in tight spaces.

Possession football when done well is not having the ball stuck being passed between the midfield and the centre backs.

This is the biggest red flag - his signings don't even really supplement it.

He turned out a bad egg and he needed binning, but at least with Winks I could see the logical fit. Stylistically he is suited to playing that way.

Martin's signings that he's worked with before consist of a goalkeeper that looks terrible on the ball and an attacking midfielder that is not very involved, like a budget Perez. And there is plenty of talk he wants John Souttar too.

Possession football isn't really my bag but it's remarkable how despite this being the clearest preference for the owner how many players we have who are totally unsuited to it. Possession football without suitable players is an absolute grim watch and likely to backfire.

Exactly this, he seems to want us to have the ball, but no plan beyond this.

Possession with intent is what we need. Use the ball to try and create shots/chances, with multiple options available for passes ALWAYS, and work damn hard to win it back when you lose it.
