According to that Percy piece the club have set a 90 point target for the season

Over a 46 game season that’s 1.95 points per game.

After 7 games we’re averaging 1.28

With 39 games remaining we now need 2.07.

At Southampton he averaged 1.58 ppg

I’ll update this every game.

After 8 games we’re on 1.1.25

With 38 games required we now need 2.25

Clearly this is done as a target.

What I am interested in, is when it becomes mathematically impossible.

15 points dropped so far, 34 more dropped points takes us to a maximum of 89 if we won the rest.

I am saying after we have played 29 games. 4 wins (they will crop up every now and then), 9 draws and 8 defeats in 21 games I am calling. Looking at the fixtures, that takes us to the first weekend in February.

Anyone think we could get there even quicker? The win/draw/loss ratio I have suggested is roughly on par with form for the season so far. Could we be even worse? Will we change manager and at least make more of a go of it before reaching the undignified reality that the target is mathematically impossible?

There’s obviously been a misunderstanding in communication and we’re talking about the target of us accumulating 90 points over the last three seasons.

We’re still 20 points away from doing that..

Absolute earliest it becomes mathematically impossible will be with 26 games to go (26x3=78), if we don’t gain any more points between now and then. That’s twelve games from now… by my reckoning, that’s after playing Reading on December 19th.

Sacked at Christmas, got to be worth a few bob.

Not quite that bad yet… 81 points in 38 games is 2.13 per game.

Basically four wins, a draw and a loss every six games. A win ratio of 67% seems a tall order on current evidence, all the same! Hell, keeping losses to one in six feels ambitious!
