bigfoxesfan Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 i seen in the paper 2 day that martin keown has been sacked by adams cus of a massive argument
Southern Fox Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Mirror Martin Keown has been sacked by Leicester after an angry bust-up with Manager MA. Adams confronted Keown this week because he believed that the former Arsenal defender had been criticising him behind his back to other players. The pair had a huge row and Adams gave him the the boot just 2 months after signing on a free transfer from the Premiership champions. Keown has already been in touch with the PFA cheif executive Gordon Taylor and he is working out a settlement with LC on the remianing 9 months of his £15k a week contract. The former England international and MA were at loggerheads almost from the first day he arrived at the Walkers Stadium in the summer. Keown 38, found life at Leicester a ulture shock after spending the last 11 years playing alongside some of the best players in the world at Highbury and he soon began to question how the club was run. Keown's misgivings grew at LC made a poor start to the Championship campaign and he felt that standards were not high enough when he compared the set-up at his new club with the Gunners. At Arsenal, Arsene Wenger and his players used to fly to some away matches and he felt Adams was not as professional in his approach as he should have been. Keowns mutterings came to a head after he played in Saturdays defeat at QPR and on Monday word got back to MA that he had been criticising his coaching and man management style to other players. MA was furious and he felt that Keown was undermining him at a time when many disgruntled LC fans are calling for his head. MA was particularly annoyed with Keown because as a senior player awith a vast experience he felt he should have known better. The foxes boss was also unhappy with Keowns attitude and the feeling around the club was that the highly decorated player was acting like a big time Charlie at Leicester. MA has admitted 3 weeks ago in an interview that he was having problems with Keown and suspected that he was not used to hearing a manager bellowing at his players. He felt then that Keown was finding his new boss' way of handling players completely different to Wengers softly softly approach at Arsenal. But despite his admission, MA was confident that Keown just needed more time to settle down and adjust to his changed surroundings at Leicester. He said: "Martin's learning that he's not at Arsenal any more and the he's not surrounded by the best players in the world". "im not saying he does but it would be easy for him to think, Arsene never loses his temper with his players. He's very coo, calm and collected, talks softly. softly and sys Patrick, Thierry, do you think you could do this slightly different?""Whereas sometimes I have to raise my voice tomake the point" "Martin is finding there are different ways to skin a catand when you've been in a highly-successful operation as he has that might be frustrating." But MA was proved wrong and after just 9 games, Keowns Leicester career has suddenly ended in acrimony.
Guest Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 According to the radio this am, a spokesman said that because of Elliott's return to fitness, and the emergence of Stearman, it was in the interst of both parties to put Keown on the transfer list as he wasn't guaranteed first team football. The bust up with Adams has been stongly refuted. Seeing as I was under the impression Keown was here to help develop the likes of Stearman, and Heath, and to get his coaching badges, then I feel that the club have been lying to me somewhere along the lines.
Craig Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Keown Made Available Leicester City have made Martin Keown available on a free transfer. The 38-year-old central defender's availability is now being circulated to other clubs. A club spokesman said: "We have decided it is in the best interests of both parties if Martin is free to find another club. "With Matt Elliott returning to full fitness and the emergence of Richard Stearman, we now have a number of centre halves available to us and unfortunately are not in a position to guarantee Martin regular first-team football." Keown - who has not been sacked as reported in a national newspaper - is continuing to train with the club. Official Site.
Ric Flair Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 This sounds dodgy!!! Hahahahaaaa if this is true, well done Keown for daring to speak the truth! I know it is undermining Adams but something does need to be done. Another player sacked, god that's about 4 seasons on the trot. Collymore, Wise, Howey, Keown. All players that know more about football than Adams probably.
Durnerz Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 ****in stupid, why put arguably our best defender on the transfer list, I too was under the impression he would coach here not just while he got his badges but after as well, helping the younger lads learn their trade, now because of Ralph Wiggum, he wont!
gjp Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 What is it with MA that he can buy a player and tell us how great its going to be for the club, then out of nowhere they are shown the door for apparently having a point view. Also am i correct in thinking that although city have been totally sh**t of late( alright against that massive club gillingham it was a bit better) that keown was one of the better performers .
Ric Flair Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 This is outrageous, Micky stated from the start that if it didn't work out that Keown would still stay on and be a coach! But Keown has been excellent so there is no reason why it hasn't worked out, just Adams refusing to listen to other people yet again. Arrogant.
Anish Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 The club's excuse on this matter is laughable. The return of Matt Elliott and the emergence of Stearman?? When MA signed Keown he knew that Elliott would return from injury one day, and he knew that we had a good young prospect defender. So why now have they put Keown on the transfer list? If anybody should be on there it should be Elliott, he is costing us more than Keown and he has done nothing for us in 1.5 seasons. Again this is another example of Micky Adams's dictatorship, his way or the highway, although I feel that Keown has been made to look the innocent party be the biased media. Keown has a duty to this club more than the manager, and his personal opinions on MA should not act to the detriment for this club.
Hullfox Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 When you think about it, it must have been a right eye opener for Keown coming to a small time club like us. Maybe he should have chatted to Tony Adams first to get a view on life the other side of the tracks. Nothing wrong with him having alternative views to Mickey, I remember Mickey saying at the beginning of the season that he could learn off a player like Keown. It's how he expressed the viewpoint. Hopefully Mickey will have another £15,000 a week to spend now, some of which might be well spent on making Harper a permanent fixture providing he produces the goods over the loan spell. He could well be our key to unlocking defences.
Ric Flair Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Old bum chin Adams has got to go now, I think this will cause alot more shit with the other players! I would rather the club come out and say Keown has mouthed off and as a result the club feel as a whole that he has got to go. But to ****in claim the reason is because Elliott (who Adams fell out with last season) and Stearman (who Adams won't play because he's 17) are now available and it will knock Keown down the pecking order is utter shit. Adams said he was extremely delighted to have signed Keown and the man is a legend and if it didn't work out on the pitch, Keown would be a coach and Adams could learn from Keown just like Keown could learn from Micky! Another example of how much of a shambles our club is at the minute. Adams **** off now!!!!!! Your gonna get some shit tomorrow boyo. willy puller

Scow Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Is that the best the club can come up with as an excuse for letting him go on a free? He's been our best defender by far this season, Dabizas and Heath have been shocking generally. Elliott is still a few weeks from full fitness, and Stearman is unlikely to play. Adams losing the plot.....
SilverFox Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Utter Farce!!!! Last one out of the walkers...please switch off the light! Oh and **** you Adams! If you want to **** someone over, why not the utterly shite Dabizas! ****ing farce of a club, farce of a manager, farce of a team, money grabbing shower of wankers who couldn't give two sh*ts about what the fans want. Why don't you just sell anyone else who is semi decent. Keown isn't the problem Adams...it's you and your bullshit tactics. Keown is probably the only person at the club who knows how to defend...its damn clear that you don't have a clue Adams.LEAVE NOW!!!!!!!!!
SilverFox Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Oh and take your imaginary schizo friend with you...who is also interestingly called Micky Adams...(I HATE people who talk about themselves in the third person)
Ian Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Sorry but i have to disagree with this slagging Micky of untill all the facts are available. Many people have expressed the view that Micky has to stamp down on the players and install discipline on the pitch to reduce the card count but this discipline starts in the dressing room. My view is at the moment a) IF any player has undermined the manager he has to go no matter how good he is. B) In our position we have to play as a team if one player is disrupting the unit then he has to be dealt with. I have no doubt that someone of Keowns stature/personality would not take kindly to being picked up on it and therefore a confrontation will occur and the manager HAS to win. c) Why put so much importance on it? Yes he's good but he is not irreplaceable. Many people on here are banging on about how good Stearman is, well here is his chance....IF Micky thinks he is any good that is and that is a matter of opinion. We have Dabizas/Heath/ Stearman and Elliot 4 players for 2 positions...plenty. Lets be honest Keown has contributed to the appauling defensive performances as much as the others. Me thinks this is a player who shines when he has quality around him but does not look so good when left exposed as it were. d) We will free up £15K week that can go into another area of the team that needs strengthening more than the central defense does. Like a decent left back! e) I never liked him anyway!

Ricey Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Firstly Keown is in the wrong for bad mouthing Adams to players behind his back, no wonder the players won't play their hearts out if a senior player is saying the manager is crap. However it shows Micky is doing it wrong and players are realising this, it's not just going wrong on the pitch. Both parties are in the wrong, the club just p*ss me off for clearly lying to all the fans.
Mark Posted 1 October 2004 Posted 1 October 2004 Of course he fell out with Adams, i'd pick Keown over Elliott anyday. Get lost Adams, how can you get rid of one of the most successful defenders this country has ever had to offer, in this division he is a class above the rest. No one can get on with the man, its an absolute joke, Adams out.
