Derby County sack manager Brown

Derby County have confirmed that they have sacked manager Phil Brown following a run of poor results. Former Bolton assistant manager Brown took charge at Pride Park in June 2005, agreeing a three-year deal as George Burley's replacement.

The Rams are currently 19th in the Championship - and were dumped out of the FA Cup by League One Colchester.

A statement from Derby on Monday said: "We would like to thank Phil for the time and effort he has given."

The club is to make an announcement on Tuesday regarding an interim management team which will be in place until a new appointment is made.

Brown left following a crunch meeting with chairman John Sleightholme on Monday night.

At a meeting between Phil Brown and the Derby County chairman on Monday evening it was decided that Phil would leave the club.

We would like to thank Phil for the time and effort he has given to the job and wish him well for the future.

There will be an announcement on Tuesday regarding an interim management team that will be in place from this point forward until a new appointment is made.

Ha ha ha

OK so we should make it our aim to stay up, just so that Derby go down. If thats not a motivator I don't know what is...

On the down side, there is now another club in trouble looking for a manager of the same qualities and with similar money to us... there's not exactly enough to go around as it is!

I heard Craig Levein was a free agent?? PLEASE APPLY CRAIG :D

I dunno about that, they're really poor. Dont even think they will be paying any kind of compo as they cant afford it.

They can afford to sack their manager, and they are as big as us, they will want someone good, like us, they will have money. Lets just hope they dont want the one we can get.

Yes, but I think at the moment (being unbiased here...) if you were offered both job's you'd probably take the derby one for the sake of your managerial reputation, so basically we better want some managers who Derby will not be in the running for...

Im not debating this with you, it's fact, they are poor, poorer then us, they are in finicial dire straights. To the extent where their main signing of the month is a OAP Brazilian on a one month deal :D Comprende? we have just signed a striker for 350,000. Thats money they dream about it. Not to mention Phil Brown had a lot longer left on his contract then Levein. They're board will have their eye on someone currently not in employment if you ask me.

It's almost like a copmetition now, whomever each club gets in. Each set of fans will then begin to compare the impact the new manager has made at the other club. Possibly not a healthy situation for either set of fans, esecially with thier board!!

Hopefully that will, once and for all, kill the Peter Reid and Garry Mac rumours. lol

Back page in the Carlisle News & Star says the Sheep want Paul Simpson as new boss. He played for them for 5 years+ in the 90's and against us in the Play-off final. Done a good job up here, had Fryatt on loan for a while. Not sure he'll though, seems happy here.

He's one for the future.
