Teeno Posted 13 March 2006 Posted 13 March 2006 Haven't seen him have a bad game since he's been at center back, he admits it's his best position so why did Levein play him in the middle when it was clear to everyone he wasn't comfortable? Top marks to the bloke he has the makings of a great player and over time maybe him and McCarthy can be a great pairing at he back for us.

I guess the fact that Weso, Hughes, Willcox and Tiatto were out long term injured, Williams was tried and failed to consistently perform, fell out with Levein and was himself injured - that pretty much left Joey and ANO I guess that's why he was stuck with Kisnorbo. I'm sure he knew Kiso was a better defender but was stuck for choice. As soon as Weso was available coming on as a sub against Cardiff and starting in Levein's last game against Plymouth he played Kiso at centreback
chesterfox Posted 13 March 2006 Posted 13 March 2006 CL seemed to fall out with a few players - I'm sure this must have been part of his problem. They just seem so much together now.
Jamesino_LCFC Posted 13 March 2006 Posted 13 March 2006 It just basically shows the unbelievably awful managerial skills of Craig Levein.. I think Kisnorbo is definetly looking one of our best players, if not best player. He is a great asset to us at the back.
syston_fox Posted 13 March 2006 Posted 13 March 2006 Shows what a difference things can make. Two moments spring to mind when thinking of him now: 1) A diving header against Wolves in the closing minutes. Very brave and nearly got kicked in the face so most players wouldnt have attempted it. 2) A block against Luton in the closing seconds on saturday. He threw himself of that ball to make sure it wasnt going in. Quality defending and shows what he can do. Still a chance of the world cup for him i think!

Such a big turnaround in the fortunes of Kis, does make you scratch your head what Levein was thinking when he was boss?

Because CL didnt really have a clue what he was doing, you could almost hear the sighs of disbelief from Rob Kelly in the background when CL announced his team in the dressing room. I was actually warming to Kisnorbo when we played Plymouth, we were literally a gnats whisker away from the pitch and the effort that lad put in changed my opinion of him totally, he was geeing everyone up and wiling them on. I think he is tremendous at the back and long may it continue! CL must have seen these qualities for him to buy him ion the first place and then almost ruins him by playing him out of position for most of the season...unbelievable.

As soon as Weso was available coming on as a sub against Cardiff and starting in Levein's last game against Plymouth he played Kiso at centreback Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Levein say that Kisnorbo would be the difference between us finishing mid-table or in the top 6 as he would sit in the midfield and breaks things up and allow our other central midfield to support the attack. So with that in mind surely Levein had Kisnorbo down as a central midfielder. I asked some Hearts fans a while back whether Kisnorbo was a good centre half and they said they didn't know because Levein only ever played him at full back or in midfield, but they did say he was a centre back at the club they bought him from!

You may be right Rick, but I tend to ignore all the bullshit like Kisnorbo would be the difference between us finishing mid-table or in the top 6 as he would sit in the midfield and breaks things up and allow our other central midfield to support the attack. As he had little choice about who to play in midfield anyway he was hardly going to say I tried him in this position at Hearts and he was crap. I'd hazard a guess he was trying to instill some confidence in him. But it's all so much water under the bridge, let's look forward to him playing so well at CB that every other CB gets pissed off at not getting a game.

This was a comment he made well before pre-season (back end of last season) when the long term injuries you talked about hadn't happened yet. He had earmarked Kisnorbo to be our midfield linchpin like all successful teams apparently need and he thought we would be.

For me, it was his reaction when he scored at Watford. If ever a guy didn't deserve the stick he was getting, it was Kizzy. As for a song, how's about Oh Kisnorbo Paddy Paddy Kisnorbo Paddy Paddy Kisnorbo Paddy Paddy Kisnorbo To the tune of "Speedy Gonzales", for those old enough to remember it, or the "Andy Cole" one for those who aren't? It fits!!

I think celebrations can be abit deceiving though, I remember seeing Dion celebrate his last minute goal against Charlton and I almost got caught up in the 'Dion loves Leicester' myth that alot of City fans bought in to aswell. But everyone can celebrate a goal like it means something, but it's irrelevant if that's all you've got to show for a seasons work. Kisnorbo has well and truely shown his true colours now though and i'm abit embarrassed about how much I ridiculed him but to be fair he was awful in midfield. He's amazing in defence though and i'm struggling to understand the transformation, long may it continue. He is turning out to be the bargain of the season even if we still concede plenty of goals, he stops alot aswell.
Dr The Singh Posted 14 March 2006 Posted 14 March 2006 I'm the first to admit, I slated him off no end, and could not stand the sight of him on a football pitch, and when he started playing him in defence I was still slating him off expecting him to **** up, and play crap but he has proved me wrong, he is a very able defender and gives 100%. I hope he can be an example to many in the team, and I think what Kisnorbo has done binds well with the motto 'foxes never quit' cus he didn't no matter what the fans etc threw at him!!!
Guest Posted 14 March 2006 Posted 14 March 2006 I think celebrations can be abit deceiving though True, however if you were there it wasn't like Dion's at all.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 March 2006 Posted 14 March 2006 True, however if you were there it wasn't like Dion's at all. Nah if I remember he headed in ran towards us went mad, nearly ripped his shirt off his back and started kissing the badge on his shirt. didnt Dion go pelting down the line with his hands raised?
Thracian Posted 14 March 2006 Posted 14 March 2006 I'm with you all in praising Kisnorbo. Fans were quite right to say he was grim in midfield and I've no real idea how he kept being picked there any more than why Sylla kept being picked on the right wing which doesn't happen much these days either! However, and although I've voted him 7 to 8 points in all his matches lately I hope Kisnorbo takes a leaf out of O'Grady's book and gets out on the training ground to improve two vital aspects of his game... a) His distribution and particularly his short 10/20m passing. b) His shooting and and heading in attacking situations. If he continues to justify his place for his purely defensive abilities he will in turn become a weakness at the level we wish to aspire because of his lack of goals potential and his poor passing. Sorry to be so demanding.
Austin Posted 14 March 2006 Posted 14 March 2006 Kisnorbo = class Well it would seem that way now he's playing at CB ... Is he keeping Gerrbrand out then ? cause personally i thought the bug swede was alrite ...
newms Posted 15 March 2006 Posted 15 March 2006 i think Kisnorbo at CB and the Hume and Fryatt partnership are the 2 reasons we're a different team under kelly. That simple
