midtablethatsallwewilleverbe Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 surley its worth bringing smudger back next season because he was brilliant down the lest hand side and we only realised him because " THE LEGEND" only released him because he thought it wasnt good for him playing in a team fighting for survival.
Guest Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 I think the fact that results improved significantly after he left says a lot.

Sorry disagree with you there. As Lisa's already said, the results improved considerably when he went back to 'Snull. I dont think his attitude is that right either.
Sir Fynwy Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 Why would we want to bring him back? He showed no fight when we needed it and cost a significant amount in wages. I expect tha Arsenal will be getting rid of him soon, he won't make the grade as a world class player in my opinion and will sign for a mid table or lower premiership side.
IDEA OR IKEA Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 Sorry disagree with you there. As Lisa's already said, the results improved considerably when he went back to 'Snull. AyewJoking Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 So we were crap because of Ryan Smith? I agree that maybe he was too much of a show pony for a team who were stuck in a rut in the lower regions of the Championship but the boy had real talent and a flair about him that you rarely see at this club. He is far from the finished article but he is young and I would love to see him back here.
City_4_Life Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 I wouldnt really want to see him back. In this league, the game aint really about skill. To do well, teams need to battle out results, and grab 1-0 wins here and there and i just dont think Smith has that fighting spirit. Dont get me wrong, you do need skillful players in a team, and Smith is great at that, but he just doesnt have that fighting spirit that we will need. Maybe he will be good to get on loan again, to bring on late to give the tired legs of the opposition the run around, but the wages probably wont be worth it.
Ric Flair Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 I'd have him back. Results might have improved since he went but I think that's because Rob Kelly is our manager and not Craig Levein. Not really anything to do with Ryan Smith, if he had/has a bad attitude then he would have been bombed out of Arsenal already but perhaps he has i'm not sure. All I know is he's got so much potential and with the right sort of coaching he could be lethal.

I agree but the fact that he came here on loan suggest that he may never have been as commited as he would have if he was permanant, he seemed to lack the same drive towards the end. I doubt he will come back but he would definitely give us an edge if he did!!!!

The best way to disrupt tight defences is to create space between the defenders. Smith can do that - both not if he'sordered to play narrow and not if there's no-one like Williams around to feed him properly. Smith is a potentially sophisticated player but is mentally at Academy level right now. The coaches would have to earn their corn with him. First task would be to make his choice of final pass better. Arsenal rarely pass the ball aerially into the box and he should be the same, certainly with Leicester's strikers. Coaches should also get him to pass slightly more often and dribble slightly less. This would sew doubt in the defenders mind and make him harder to predict. He would need people close to him who understood him and helped to highlight his strengths. I don't think he will ever be back, Kelly doesn't seem to be the most understanding of temperamental youngsters (he probably has enough problems to do without domestics) and, of course, Smith will be a long time learning to be a defender on top of his existing skills.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 It's a weird one. He was an exciting player to watch but you can't really miss him given how the team has played and the games we have won since he left. I will enjoy watching him if he comes back on the opposition's side and I hope his career flourishes but perhaps we are better off without him.
Jamesino_LCFC Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 I say bring him back. I remember, some of the things he did when he first came here we were amazed by. He is a very talented young footballer and now we arnt fighting relegation, I think it would be great to have him back. However I dont think Kelly will want him back, as he didnt play him much at all and gave reasons for his exit.
Guest Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 He hasn't got the right attitude for this division. We can't afford the luxury of a show pony. Simple as.

I'm sure that the FA would like to know, it's something that they can teach prospective coaches on their training schemes.Kelly doesn't seem to be the most understanding of temperamental youngsters Or perhaps he can't be bothered when he has more important things to do than dealing with arsey little brats?
Jimmy Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 if we were to loan an arsenal player i'd prefer it was lupoli, another quality striking option for next to nothing for the season would be a great bit of business
Stevosevic Posted 24 April 2006 Posted 24 April 2006 a ridiculous idea. you dont want someone with his attitude at this club. he is clearly a big headed t**T.
