MC Prussian Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 I'd say Poland. After their dominating presence in the WC qualifying groups, now they're 2nd to last in their group, with 0 goals scored and 5 conceeded. And then they lose against Germany. How dare you? If it hadn't been for that red card in the 2nd half...

After all the hype about the "Group of death" Ivory Coast ahve dissapointed, so have Serbia and Montenegro.
Jamesino_LCFC Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 England How can you say that?! 2 games, 2 wins, 2 clean sheets, and were in the last 16, that really does annoy me. I'd have to say France. I was revising for an exam and I planned my revision around France vs. Switzerland, thinking it was going to be a good game, but France were poor, and so was Switzerland
MC Prussian Posted 16 June 2006 Author Posted 16 June 2006 England Peter Crouch for pulling Brent Sancho's hair.

Serbia and Montenegro definitely have disappointed considering their qualifying record. Sweden have also disappointed, having just scraped victory against Paraguay and being unable to score against T&T.

I was revising for an exam and I planned my revision around France vs. Switzerland, thinking it was going to be a good game, but France were poor, and so was Switzerland Easy, as they had a lot of trouble against 2 much inferior sides. The motivation looked awful against Paraguay, and the woeful finishing against T&T nearly cost them. They're slightly lucky to have 6 points out of 6 to be honest. Serbia & Montenegro are by far the biggest disappointment to me so far. I tipped them to get to the semi's but instead they have suffered a complete collapse. Poland and Ukraine have also disappointed, while France looked lacklustre in their first game.

Would you be happy if we'd have played amazing and lost both matches? Exactly were through and thats all that matters.

Would you be happy if we'd have played amazing and lost both matches? Exactly were through and thats all that matters. Switzerland aren't much inferior, which they proved in the qualification phase. Germany had little trouble disposing of Costa Rica, and if you feel T&T and Poland are a similar team qualitywise then so be it. Sweden aren't blessed with world class players like England, so that's a no go. Italy did a cynical job, and they scored twice, playing some nice football without overextending themselves. And Holland met oppsition like Serbia & M and the Ivory Coast...hardly comparable to Paraguay or T&T... I would've been happy yes, just like I'm happy with the Ivory Coast. They could've easily drawn or won both their games if they just had a class keeper. I'm not English, so I don't have a need to turn a blind eye to their performances and only look at the results.

Twice with rather embrassing consequences. Also Italy were streched by Ghana and I would not refer to their performance as cynical unless I was Italian. I dont want to make excuses for them, better performances are going to be needed if we are going to get past the Germans/Ecudorians. Saturdays performance was a bit dismall, but we got 3 points against a half decent team who are not as bad as you think, plus if they want to blame the heat once this world cup thats fine by me. T&T were a well organised, 10 men behind the ball team who I must say looked capable of holding out against a few teams in this tournamnet, we weren't electric but they made life extremly difficult. There defensive display was top notch, the same display that held Sweden. They obviously came to the WC with a plan to qualify and I must say it could still work for them. England need to improve no doubt however T&T did not make easy at all. Brazil were incredibly dissapointing for me im afraid.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 June 2006 Posted 17 June 2006 France certainly although i'm not diasppointed that they are playing rubbish. Brazil certainly did not look a patch on argentina and are becoming a little predictable Portugal playing now against Iran have looked less than convincing and if/when they get through the group stages i can't see them getting past the argies or the dutch
Deathside Posted 17 June 2006 Posted 17 June 2006 england disappointed me because I watched a bit of one of their games - I didn't mean to Sweden have been disappointing - I rather like Sweden and especially Hendrik - but they really haven't looked good at all
MC Prussian Posted 18 June 2006 Author Posted 18 June 2006 Let's look at the so-called favourites: Germany: Crappy defense, will falter soon England: Pretty average so far, will have to improve massively in order to advance further Sweden: Have not convinced me so far, could be a sleeper Argentina: Raw. Power. The finals are calling. Holland: Very average, shaky in the 2nd half against Ivory Coast Portugal: Too many individuals, and the biggest cry-baby with Ronaldo Mexico: My second sleeper. Could make it far this year. Italy: What an uninspiring performance. Totally defensive, no flair, no joy and De Rossi is the WC's biggest twat for that ugly elbow check against McBride. Czech Republic: Rollercoaster. Will advance, but not make it very far. Too unconsistent. Brazil: Disappointing so far. Don't play well, but still manage to win somehow (just like Germany). Ronaldo's fat and the defence doesn't convince me at all, crappy goalkeeper. Will advance, but not make it to the finals. France: Awful. No team spirit, average age above 30. Too slow, players that are too selfish and a woeful coach. Won't make it past the group stage, but play a third consecutive draw against Togo... Spain: Have to see the second game against Tunisia to make a proper call.
Daggers Posted 18 June 2006 Posted 18 June 2006 Let's look at the so-called favourites: Argentina: Raw. Power. The finals are calling. Let's take a rain check until they've played a side that can offer some resistance. Talented? Yes! Tested? Absolutely not... Hell, Ecuador beat them!
MC Prussian Posted 18 June 2006 Author Posted 18 June 2006 Let's take a rain check until they've played a side that can offer some resistance. Talented? Yes! Tested? Absolutely not... Hell, Ecuador beat them! Yeah, and the Ivory Coast was hailed the best African team in this year's tournament. And people were praising the S&M defense. Now they've conceived 7 goals in two matches...
Nationwider Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 From what I've seen, France and Serbia have disappointed. Equador and Argentina have played the best of those that have had two matches.
MC Prussian Posted 22 June 2006 Author Posted 22 June 2006 Final verdict: Poland, Serbia & Montenegro, Czech Republic, Mexico & Brazil (partially) and France.
bigneville Posted 23 June 2006 Posted 23 June 2006 Final verdict: Poland, Serbia & Montenegro, Czech Republic, Mexico & Brazil (partially) and France. Did ya not think Brazil are getting back to there best after last nights performance???
MC Prussian Posted 23 June 2006 Author Posted 23 June 2006 Did ya not think Brazil are getting back to there best after last nights performance??? Fatty Ronaldo had his two goals, but he was showing a lack of interest again, walked around, waited for a ball to come instead of participating actively. Ronaldinho had one nice long ball in the offense (the assist for the equalizer before HT), the defensive wing backs like Cafu, Roberto Carlos or Gilberto are too old, Emerson does not convince me and Dida is not consistent enough. Brazil will not reach the finals this time. My word.
Daggers Posted 23 June 2006 Posted 23 June 2006 Did ya not think Brazil are getting back to there best after last nights performance??? Nope. I reckon all the big teams have been relatively untested so far against decent oppo. The nearest we have come was ArgvHol ~ and that was a MAJOR cop out by both teams. I hope the next round peps up a bit because this is becoming a bit of a snoozathon [Graham Poll notwithstanding]...
