davieG Posted 15 July 2006 Share Posted 15 July 2006 Leicester Kisnorbo Pens New Deal City defender Patrick Kisnorbo has signed a new deal with the Foxes that will keep him at the Walkers Stadium until at least the end of the 2008-09 campaign. Kisnorbo, who joined Leicester from Hearts in June 2005, made 41 appearances during his first season with the club. And manager Rob Kelly was impressed enough with what he saw to extend the players terms by a further year. Kisnorbo said: "It's a big endorsement from the club to be handed a new deal less than 12 months after signing your old one and I'm very humbled by the gesture." The Australian international began last season in midfield, but flourished when he was switched to centre half by then manager Craig Levein. He will be part of the City squad that travels to Cheshire next week in preparation for pre-season friendly matches against Macclesfield Town and Stockport County. steve_wilson101 Posted 15 July 2006 Share Posted 15 July 2006 Pleased to see this - it shows some ambition as we've obviously offered new terms to keep him after we've had premiership clubs sniffing around him. Fingers crossed we can keep hold of our other top players and maybe let one or two squad players go to take some pressure off the wage bill. Surely this must mean that Gerrbrand will be on his way soon?
SystonFox Posted 15 July 2006 Share Posted 15 July 2006 good news but just imagine if he is shit like last season. we will all cry.
lookwhaticando Posted 15 July 2006 Share Posted 15 July 2006 Hopefully that's rained on the people putting money on Kisnorbo to make a quick exit. It's looking more like Gerrbrand would be the departee should there be one.

Louise Posted 15 July 2006 Share Posted 15 July 2006 What a pointless move. He already had two years on his deal, he wouldn't have gone for free if some other club wanted him, and if some club wants him another year on his contract won't make them stop them making a bid. Maybe it'll make PK more happy to stay with us now he's being paid more, but if that's all he's interested in, who cares about keeping him? What is the benefit of this to City? Well maybe he was on relatively low wages compared to the rest of the first team, and the directors, management and maybe even the player himself felt that his wages should reflect his now inquestionably important role for the team. A reward if you want.

A reward if you want. A reward for three months improvement? What about Fryatt's reward? Hume's? Maybe he just has a difficult/clever agent planting stories in the press about other clubs which has panicked the club into acting. Whether the club wish to 'reward' him or not, there seems like no benefit in it for them to me, especially when the extra wages could have bought in a loan player. Molson Canadian Posted 15 July 2006 Share Posted 15 July 2006 From Skysports: http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=40...nets+Foxes+deal Kisnorbo nets Foxes deal Patrick Kisnorbo has been rewarded with a contract extension by Leicester City. The Australia international linked up with The Foxes 12 months ago from Hearts and impressed during his debut season in The Championship. He was converted from a midfielder into a centre half and has now had his contract topped up by a further year. Kisnorbo is now tied to The Walkers Stadium until 2009 and he is honoured to have been offered the new terms by Leicester. "It's a big endorsement from the club to be handed a new deal less than 12 months after signing your old one and I'm very humbled by the gesture," Kisnorbo told the club's official website. The 25-year-old had been linked with a summer exit from Leicester, with Wigan Athletic rumoured to have held an interest. Those fears should now be allayed after Kisnorbo pledged his future to The Foxes, who will be aiming to bid for promotion this season.

Thracian Posted 15 July 2006 Share Posted 15 July 2006 On the basis of Kisnorbo's new deal I cannot imagine there's much first team football in line for Gerrbrand.
