Apparently he's signed a 3 year contract and been sold for £10,000,000 (15 million euro's) Sounds like glazer made the decision to sell him and not fergie?

Nonsense ~ Fergie publicly dropped him and then hit the media with loads of stories about how he had been seeking a move anyway. S'more like Fergie distancing himself from imminent disaster as he has failed to sign any decent players [hell, ANY players] in the close season.

Didn't Ferguson say that van Nistelrooy wasn't going for less than £15m?

Sorry that's what I meant

Glazer pushed the deal through quickly while Fergie was waiting for more money

thats a massive loss for utd hope hes not thinking of replacing a man who guarantees

20-25 goals a season with saha a man who gets 20-25 injuries a season

dont care aslong as united arent 1st or 2nd in the league im happy cos thats considered a flop from them :D

van nistelrooy was however a joy to watch, his goalscoring record speaks for itself and as much as i hate the donkey faced coont i will miss him on MOTD each week. now theyre not gonna get Torres UTD will be a massive flop. i cant see Michael Carrick providing 20 goals next season. lol.

I can't see United challenging for the title without RVN.

And I don't think another failed title challenge will go down well with the Glazers.

So it could be a taxi for Fergie!

Well I've never believed all the hype about Fergie being a good man manager, he may know his football but he just doesn't come across as a people person more of a egomaniac/megalomaniac

Agreed. After hearing extracts from Gordon Strachans autobiography players, more so in the past, were petrified of Fergie. But now he is an old man and would get his balls crushed by the Roo if he shouted at his current crop of players.

After actually reading Ferguson's autobiography I don't think there's anything wrong with his man management. If players aren't going to give their all for the club, disrupt the spirit of the squad, or behave like celebs rather than footballers (and all of the high profile players who've fallen out with Fergie over the years - Beckham, Keane, Stam, RVN, Strachan etc fall in those categories) then he's right to get rid of them. Football clubs are bigger than their best players, no matter how well they perform on the pitch.

As for Strachan, from reading Fergie's side of the tale, Fergie was right to get rid of him both at Aberdeen and Man United. Strachan's behaviour was pretty disgraceful.

Irrespective of what you think of Ferguson, he deserves enormous respect for what he's achieved EVERYWHERE he's managed. You don't achieve what he's achieved in the game without some good man management skills.

Would be more beneficial to Utd in the long run if Ferguson stopped falling out with his top players (Stam, Beckham, van Nistelrooy being the most obvious examples in recent years).

You have to look at the common denominator. They may have been petulant but a better manager would have sorted their situations out. Ferguson's recent record is poor by his own and Man Utd's own high standards. It's the Graeme Souness effect.

Fergie finds it impossible to deal with people maturing, unless they remain like Scholes/Giggs. Anyone with spunk or an opinion is quickly sidled out - and that is not good management. A good manager finds a place in his team for an array of talent, for the benefit of the team. For Ferguson it is all about his ego.

He has been blessed to have been at United during a period of richness for them. Now the purse strings are tied he has found it increasingly difficult to perform. The fact that they have won domestic honours is more of a statement about the current standard of English football than his talent.

If he was a widely respected manager he would have attracted players in during the close season. This hasn't happened on any scale approaching a side with a serious bid for European honours.

His candle is flickering ~ I say he is sacked before the end of the season.

It could also be that top names know that Ferguson and his team are in decline and don't want anything to do with them.

The Glazers may let him leave with dignity at the end of the season. After all he's done for the club, it's the least he deserves.

That statement is simply nonsense. To say Man United have only won domestic honours because of the current standard of domestic football is outrageous and untrue. You may as well say Chelsea's dominance for the last 2 seasons, and Liverpool's in the 1980s, was because there was a poor standard of opposition.

I'm sticking to my guns. United this season will be in the top 3 again and will be among the Premiership challengers. They may not have the same calibre of players as Chelsea, but they are more than a match for Liverpool and Arsenal. The drive and passion that Fergie instils in his teams is more than the sum of their parts. Write them off at your will, but they are not going to be pushovers this season.

As things stand, I can't see them challenging for the Premiership. Chelsea have added Shevchenko and Ballack to their ranks. Man Utd, at a conservative estimate, are a notional 20 points behind them before a ball's been kicked.

They're still a good side on their day - if they keep Rooney fit, they will have a chance of top 3, although there's a lot of weight on his shoulders this season.

The problem for Fergie is that 3rd may not keep him his job.

And whilst, I wouldn't belittle the achievement of any team that wins a domestic trophy (for obvious reasons), I would happily wind up any Man Utd fan by reminding them they brushed aside the stagestruck Millwall and Wigan to pick up those cups. :P
